Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
Just a quick one to inform you that the very rare Bugner/Tangstad 10 rounder from Denmark has been uploaded to YouTube. Watch at your peril.

Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
He'd comeback again under Mogens Palle
Outpointed Anders Eklund and then threw it away again against the average Tangstad.
this loss and the Marvis Frazier were so frustrating and bloody typical Bugner.
I'd have loved to see a match with Bruno following the Dino Dennis Ko but it wasn't to be.
btw has anyone posted the Bugner v scott welch fight (on the Bruno-Tyson 2 undercard I think?)
ive never seen that

Pretty sure that fight took place in Europe, Germany maybe?funso banjo baby wrote: ↑06 Dec 2019, 06:45 He'd comeback again under Mogens Palle

Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
I watched it live. It was on the German wing of the Tyson/Bruno II PPV. Steve Holdsworth on commentary. I taped it and had it for years but lost my tapes moving around in the 2000s.funso banjo baby wrote: ↑06 Dec 2019, 06:45 btw has anyone posted the Bugner v scott welch fight (on the Bruno-Tyson 2 undercard I think?)

Bugner couldn't compete with Welch. He was huge and could bully opponents, lean on them and sort of biff them around but Welch, like Bruno before him, was just too young and strong to be bullied by an old fat man without a big punch. He basically used Bugner as a punchbag, breaking his ribs around the third round and cornering him in the sixth where he unloaded some huge power shots on Bugner's head that flattened the old boy. Young Joe would have intimidated Welch and beat him up but at 46 it was impossible.
It will surface on YouTube eventually.

Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
I wonder if Bugner had got it he would have wound up in Vegas fighting Michael Spinks for the heavyweight title? And if so, what on earth that would have looked like?
Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
Well, it wasn't Holmes-Norton; but, I've seen many worse fights.

Bugner might have nicked a tight one against Spinks....but then again.
Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
Bugner wouldn't have beaten Spinks on his best day. In 84/85 he loses every round and is possibly stopped.

Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
Sure was. Boxing was all over the TV screens and Warren made sure that the Cartel (Duff and co.) could no longer be complacent. Kaylor-Gumbs typified the era, with Kaylor climbing of the floor to essentially finish Gumbs with his very next punch.

Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
During the 80s we had the following on regularly,
Mid week sports special- ITV
world of sport-ITV
fight night-ITV
seconds out-HTV
big fight live ITV
sportsnight-BBC
live world championship boxing- BBC
It was a constant stream of boxing, all free to view too
Re: Joe Bugner vs Steffan Tangstad
How things have changed. When Joe Frazier died a few years ago, the BBC screened the last round of his 1971 encounter with Ali but didn't even have the decency to show the full three minutes, cutting the round to about 30 seconds.
