Michael Hunter vs. Alexander Povetkin - 7 December 2019

Alexander Povetkin v Michael Hunter and Scott Quigg v Jono Carroll have been confirmed by promoter Eddie Hearn as additions to the undercard of the December 7 Andy Ruiz-Anthony Joshua rematch in Saudi Arabia.

Hearn told iFL TV during Wednesday’s media workouts for Saturday’s Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor 140lb unification world title fight that a further three or possibly four fights have still to be announced for the world heavyweight title clash at the purpose built Diriyah Arena on the outskirts of the country’s capital Riyadh.

The chief support in Saudi Arabia is a fascinating heavyweight bout between slickster Hunter and the tried and tested Povetkin. The latter, a former WBA heavyweight champion, fought recently on August 31st beating Hughie Fury over 12 rounds in London. The 40-year-old Russian finds himself ranked ten, four and five with the IBF, WBC and WBA respectively while 31-year-old Hunter, fresh off a 12 round decision victory against Sergey Kuzmin last month in New York, finds himself at ten, seven and six with the WBO, IBF and WBA respectively.

Interesting fight. Fancy Hunter strongly for the win. Probably on the cards but i wouldn't be surprised with a late ko.

It’s the penultimate fight.. should be a good lead into the main event.

I like this fight a lot actually.

I’m trying to think of a better heavyweight non title fight purely based off of each guys ranking and don’t think I can think of a better one all year. I’d have Ortiz above both guys but obviously he either fights tomato cans or Wilder. Parker is probably considered to be above both these guys but again hasn’t fought anyone of note this year.

In fact while we mention Parker I’m surprised he isn’t on this bill even in a keep busy fight.

Parker has been jumping up and down to get a fight. He hasn't left the gym apart from his illness. It's down to Matchroom as he is still under contract. If he was smart, he would be waiting in the wings with his gym bag on case there is a last minute withdrawal.

Hopefully because the rest of the card is proper wank! I'm out at some xmas thing in Glasgow with the kids so i probably won't be back till around 9ish. I might go to my local for main event then just head home or try for a stream...

AJ vs Ruiz and Hunter vs Pov are both good fights. The other 2 HW fights are predictable mismatches

This is a very good matchup. We need more such bouts. It's going to be competetive and entertaining. I've been a longtime Povetkin fan, but something tells me he won't handle Hunter. Povetkin is still there, but a bit past prime. He has been pretty one-dimentional recently. Hunter's movement and versatility will become a problem for Povetkin. I guess, Hunter will take the decision.

There is that "1 punch can change everything" motto with the heavyweight division.
I'm trying to think of an example.
Oh, Ruiz
