Hitting a big guy to the body and having fast hands isn’t a fluke
If that fight played out 10 times with that version of AJ in the ring how many is Ruiz winning?

It was a fluke.
AJ is only that version of AJ because of the loss though. You’re talking hypotheticals. Ruiz prepared to fight a guy who was muscle bound and went to bang guys out in the first fight and fought him as he should. Having a good left hook, rolling under a punch and landing it isn’t a fluke, it’s literally the sort of thing he’d train for his entire life

He caught him with an awkward shot on the temple that AJ never recovered from. Landing that punch anywhere else and Joshua would have got his legs back and got back into the fight. The type of shot landed made it a fluke. The circumstances of AJ fighting recklessly made it a fluke. That wasn’t a default AJ in there .

Ruiz is staying hungry!

Out of 10, Ridd? I'd back AJ to win 9 against this version of Ruiz. Against an 18st Ruiz, maybe 6 to 8. But I seriously believe that Ruiz doesn't want Wilder (happy to be wrong), and so on top of his newfound wealth, this represented the end of his road at the sharp end. I don't think he's scared of Fury for a minute, but realises how that'd play out. And if you paid him enough to fight Wilder, sure, but I just think his height, reach and power makes him a big favourite over Ruiz.

Best-case scenario for 2020 is Wilder-Fury II and AJ-Usyk, finally — FINALLY — leading to a showdown between the last two.

He landed flush on AJ tonight, on the chin. Joshua laughed.

Still, he should never have lost to Ruiz. He’s nothing special at all. Still, as mentioned above, it’s a weird state of play in the division. Hopefully Wilder v Fury produces an emphatic winner and he can then fight Joshua to decide who the top dog is. Can’t see it happening unfortunately

I find it easy to imagine Fury delaying it because he isn't ready, when he's fought that Nordic lad and wossname in preparation. Wilder's on a good run now; hope it continues. This version of Joshua's definitely back in the mix.

But if they take much longer I can see Dubois coming along and upsetting one of them. He mightn't be all that, but I give him a chance if Rabbit doesn't put the brakes on his career. No hurry yet, obviously, but it's counterproductive to avoid challenges.

Not quite how it works. Both will be a little gutted tonight. They thought Ruiz had done their dirty work for them.
I think Joshua would knock both out, always have.

Well in that case every punch is a fluke. A pub to the equilibrium is a fluke and no boxer has ever known about it so Thompson KOikg price was a fluke. If that’s the case if Lewis landed that shot to Rahman’s forehead and not his chin, that was a fluke. If hatton landed that Castillo body shot a few cm higher it would’ve been his ribs not his kidney.. fluke. If you’re in a ring and trying to ko someone and your punch fvcks them up... and you’ve been training to fvck someone up with your punches and it works who are you to call it a fluke 😂 what a joke he’d have thrown that punch 100s of times in training over that years. We all saw how determined he was after being floored in the first time, it was no fluke, it was a great shot

Same. Both fit I’d have 7/3 AJ... doesn’t mean the first fight was a fluke. A little perspective is good. People on the beer tonight clearly

So no malice intended. It was a good night of boxing, so let's all be friends.

I don't pretend to know how anyone but myself thinks, but if I were either Fury or Wilder, there was nothing in tonight's performance that would make me hesitiate to face AJ. I want them all to fight each other and prove who is the best. And not just the three of them. I want to see Usyk; Whyte; Ortiz also get a taste of the top three who they haven't faced to date. Styles make fights and we have a lot of varying styles in the top 6 or 7 HW's.

Yes I was on the beers :yay:

My point was, it was a fluke because Joshua getting reckless set up that scenario. Ruiz did what he had to do under the circumstances, but it was all on Joshua.

fluke1
/fluːk/

noun
an unlikely chance occurrence, especially a surprising piece of luck.
"their victory was a bit of a fluke"

Ruiz winning was an unlikely chance occurrence precisely because Joshua fought like he did. Recklessly. And if you don’t believe it was an unlikely chance occurrence (ie the definition of the word fluke) you don’t agree with the overwhelming odds against Ruiz before the first fight.

Can’t see it happening. Ruiz ain’t no Marquez and AJ is Pac-Man. No desire for a third, plus mandatories. The only way a third fight happens is if Ruiz beats fury and Usyk or something and becomes mandatory... ain’t happening

Agree, Josh was up 2-0, dropped Andy, then got wreckless going in for the kill and was never the same after getting hurt. Boxing to measure it was easy easy stuff for him
