Yes, that seemed odd at the time, it would make sense.Controversial wrote: ↑08 Dec 2019, 15:18 It might explain why AJ seemed to take the defeat so well, I guess if he knew there was a reason behind his lacklustre display it would make a loss easier to justify in his own head.
Re: AJ claims health issue before first Ruiz fight
Wasn't there some rumours that he had a panic attack?Controversial wrote: ↑08 Dec 2019, 13:19 Just on BBC website
Unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua says a health issue left him "tired" and "drained" in the build-up to his June defeat by Andy Ruiz Jr.
Joshua, 30, reclaimed his world titles in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, dominating the Mexican over 12 rounds.
Conspiracy theories had circulated after his initial defeat, one of the biggest shocks in heavyweight history.
"I had some issue with my health which I was going through for a long time," Joshua told the BBC's Mike Costello.
"I didn't know what was wrong with me. I felt so tired and drained and thought it must be down to training.
"In the changing room before the fight I got a bucket of ice and was putting my head in it thinking 'why do I feel so tired?'
"The responsibilities of being world champion are difficult. All that stuff, feeling so tired, dealing with obligations.
"Now I have energy, I haven't missed a session."
The Briton added: "After my check-ups it showed what the problem was and this is what you have to get sorted.
"Even in this camp I had an operation done but as I'd started training in June I had no issues."
Joshua refused to say what the operation was but it is understood the procedure he had in June was linked to the issue diagnosed after his defeat by Ruiz.
To be honest, sounds a bit of an excuse to me. Can't have been that serious if he's gotten back in the ring again, so why mention it at all?
Re: AJ claims health issue before first Ruiz fight
If you read it again he does not link the two together as one thing 1. illness and 2. operation.
Illness could be viral, simple as that.
Comment on operation was to say that even this camp was not perfect, he needed an operation on something.
They may be connected but someone has made a bit of leap from the wording when he does not say that. I appreciate the article makes the leap, but I listened to it on the Costello podcast and AJ himself did not link them.

Maybe he was trying to stay humble?tobyh5 wrote: ↑10 Dec 2019, 08:46 If you read it again he does not link the two together as one thing 1. illness and 2. operation.

Re: AJ claims health issue before first Ruiz fight
I heard he lost his mojo, and he had his mojo replaced via stem cell treatment with a skin graft from Fury’s right leg. AJ has not been able to sit still since the op.
Re: AJ claims health issue before first Ruiz fight
I can hear Buffer announcing
'And just one loss, due to illness...'.
'And just one loss, due to illness...'.

More boxing bullshvte. He also said no excuses for losing, but we've had more than I can stomach, including this. Much like Wilder's "injured" right elbow in training before Fury. At the end...none of them can resist making shvt up to try and look better. Casuals eat that stuff up.

The fact is rarely, if ever, does a fighter come out of a training camp without some sort of injuryoogiebe wrote: ↑10 Dec 2019, 19:17 More boxing bullshvte. Re: AJ claims health issue before first Ruiz fight
Precisely, the same is true of all top level athletes, injuries are constantly picked up in training, and especially in fighting sports.
Re: AJ claims health issue before first Ruiz fight
Agreed. So if it's an injury bad enough to substantially impact performance, we'll just tuck it in our back pocket and use it only if we lose. Nicks; aches; strains; etc are a part of all sports that athletes play/fight through. This health issue crap is too much.Controversial wrote: ↑11 Dec 2019, 05:17The fact is rarely, if ever, does a fighter come out of a training camp without some sort of injuryoogiebe wrote: ↑10 Dec 2019, 19:17 More boxing bullshvte. You'd have thought if he was struggling that much the fight would have been pulled .oogiebe wrote: ↑11 Dec 2019, 09:48Agreed. My thoughts too , no real reason was ever given for why he kicked off so much .
