Post by AntonioMartin »

I was wondering, can you remember cases where a rematch had the same, exact result as the first bout?

Here are a few cases:

Alexis Arguello KO13 Alfredo Escalera
Vinny Paz W12 Roberto Duran
Hector Camacho W12 Roberto Duran
Colin Jones KO9 Kirkland Laing
Ken Buchanan W15 Ismael Laguna
Hugo Corro W15 Rodrigo Valdes
Carmen Basilio KO12 Tony DeMarco
Carl Olson KO4 Wayne Powell
Gene Tunney W10 Jack Dempsey
Ivan Robinson W10 Arturo Gatti

There are probably scores of fights where the same guy won the decision over the same amount of rounds. Not that many where the KO was in the same round though.

Saemi Hanagata split draw Nao Ikeyama in their first 2 fights (had 1 round swung in their third bout we could have had 3 split draws)

Back in the old days, there must have been thousands (literally!) of these cases.

Vince Dundee D6 Charles Barber
Vince Dundee W PTS 8 Tony Cortez
Vince Dundee L PTS 10 Jackie Fields
Vince Dundee D 10 Abie Bain
Vince Dundee W PTS 10 Young Ketchell
Vince Dundee W PTS 10 Ben Jeby
Vince Dundee W PTS 12 Len Harvey
Vince Dundee L PTS 10 Teddy Yarosz

That's just one former world champion. I can't even imagine the numbers we would get, if we took a close look at guys like Greb, Dillon, Levinsky, Rosenbloom, Britton, etc.
