Martin defends his European Super Lightweight title against former champ Hughes this Thursday on Sky, first card from Matchroom Spain, Martin the home fighter, stopped Scarpa last time out to win the title, Hughes beat Scarpa himself to win the title, both men also lost shots at the title to Yigit, might be decent, Hughes was unlucky to lose the belt in the first place, he beat Davies Jr IMO, he's always in good scraps, always gives his all, been on the wrong end of a couple of close decisions that might have gone his way, he doesn't mind going abroad, ive never seen Martin but if we're going on experience Hughes edges it
If Spanish judges are as bias as British ones then Hughes could be on the wrong end of another decsion

Hope Hughes can pull it off, the referee is actually allowing both fighters to work on the inside which is helping the spectacle however Martin is ahead at the minute.

Re: Sandor Martin vs Joe Hughes
117-111 Martin for me, decent watch considering my pretty wide card and it being drama free, cautious start from both men, i had Martin edging the first 2 as Hughes wasnt throwing at all, I thought Hughes took 3-5, he started to pin Martin down and work him over with left hand to head and body but after that Martin pulled away and Hughes ran out of ideas, kept marching forward but was being picked off, he blocked a lot of Martin's work especially to the body but was constantly being out worked, he only threw the right hand about 4 times, one hand was never gonna work against someone like Martin, especially the right hand against a southpaw
Martin looks alright,.slippery southpaw., moves well, decent variety and a good engine, pulled way ahead of Hughes , he doesn't look thr strongest but wouldnt mind seeing him in with a few of our lads, hed probably school Ritson

Avenesyan has found some mojo from somewhere - swatting aside unworthy challengers in R1 is what good fighters do.
Re: Sandor Martin vs Joe Hughes
Hughes is always gonna struggle against a decent counter puncher unfortunately. He's essentially a one armed fighter. He's really done well to develop his left hand. Some of the shots he throws are impressive but he's wide open if he misses and was made to pay again and again last night.
