Soon there will be 3 WBC lightweight champions

Post by Glass Joe »

Luke Campbell vs Javier Fortuna has been ordered for the vacant WBC lightweight world title as Devin Haney is now 'champion in recess', WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has revealed. Haney's currently recovering from shoulder surgery and so unable to face his mandatory.

I still can't fathom the reason to give Haney a belt after what he's done

Fvcking joke.

I mean, you can occasionally have an interim champ, or a “champ in recess” but they’re just having 3 fornicating World Champions - disgusting.

What a joke.

If Champ can't defend within a set time frame, either strip him & next two available contenders fight for the vacant belt, or create an Interim title fight between next two available contenders with the champ getting first title shot but if he's not available he gets stripped & interim becomes the world title. Its really not complicated, especially as all the bs politics of boxing is what turns fans off.

Champion in Recess doesn't really mean you're the champion, it just means you have first dibs when you're back.. Doesn't it?

Apart from the winner of Campbell vs. Fortuna, who else is there? Lomachenko? Franchise champion isn't exactly a champion either..

Yeah pretty much. Vitali was in a similar situation when he first packed it in wasn't he? He fought Peter in his first fight back to retake the title.

When the Franchise champion is clearly the number 1 in the division I'd go as far as to say Haney's title means even less than the Franchise one
