Maurice Hooker return on December 20 in Phoenix
Press Release
Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (26-1, 17 KOs) will return to the ring for his highly-anticipated fight on December 20th at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Ariz. where he will take on Mexico’s Pedro Campa (31-1, 21 KOs).
Hooker vs. Campa will serve as one the main undercard fights with Danny Jacobs and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. headlining. The match is presented by Matchroom Boxing in association with Roc Nation Sports and will be broadcast live on DAZN in the U.S. This will be Hooker’s first fight since losing a nail-biting fight against Jose Ramirez in a unification bout on July 27.
“I’m excited to get back in the ring on December 20th,” said Hooker. “I know I’m still one of the top guys in my division and I’m ready to do whatever it takes to be a world champion again.”
This fight will be crucial to Hooker’s climb back into the rankings as he looks to continue his quest to earn back a world championship belt and prove to the boxing community that he is still one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
“Maurice has proved he is one of the best and most exciting boxers in the world,” said Roc Nation Sports boxing promoter Dino Duva. “Now, he enters the next phase of his career, and I’m confident he will be better than ever. To show what kind of warrior he is, he’s not taking a cake walk opponent. Pedro Campa is a very good fighter from Mexico with a phenomenal record. On Dec 20 on DAZN, Mighty Mo will continue to thrill the fans, and then I look forward to him going on to win another world championship in 2020. As always, I am grateful and excited to be working again with Eddie Hearn and our good friends and partners at Matchroom Promotions.”

Former junior welterweight titlist Maurice Hooker, who lost his belt by sixth-round knockout to Jose Ramirez in their July 27 unification bout, is in need of a new opponent for his ring return on the Daniel Jacobs-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. undercard Dec. 20 (DAZN) in Phoenix. Hooker was due to face Pedro Campa at 144 pounds, but Campa has withdrawn due to an eye injury, Dino Duva of Roc Nation Sports, Hooker’s co-promoter, told ESPN on Tuesday night. Duva said the hunt is on for a replacement foe.

Is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. still being advised by Al Haymon (he definitely was for the Canelo bout)?
If so, the main event of a fight card promoted by Matchroom US and televised by DAZN, involves two Al Haymon fighters, which is highly unusuable.

I don’t think there are any that are actually contractually tied to the PBC though.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑11 Dec 2019, 06:22Plenty of boxers are advised by Al. As far as I’m concerned it’s just a case of the PBC broadcasts predominantly showcasing Haymon fighters (unless mega money is involved, as per Fury’s bouts against Wilder).
Correct me if I’m wrong, Top Rank/ESPN has never covered an event where the headline fight involved two Haymon guys?

Re: Daniel Jacobs vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - December 20, 2019
Legal representatives for the second-generation boxer and former middleweight titlist are due to continue an ongoing courtroom battle with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and Bob Bennett, its executive director. The next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, December 17 in District Court of Clark County, Nevada, remaining on that circuit following a recent ruling in efforts on behalf of NSAC to have the case moved to federal court.
The Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.’s lawsuit against the Nevada Athletic Commission will come to a head when the parties argue over Chavez, Jr.’s request for a Temporary Restraining Order and Preliminary Injunction from his suspension. If the Court approves of the TRO, JCC will be clear to fight this Friday in Arizona against Daniel Jacobs.
Chavez, Jr. filed the lawsuit seeking relief from the NAC’s ruling that his declining of a drug test amounted to a failure by the commission. Chavez, Jr. argues that he was not a licensed boxer under the jurisdiction of the commission. He had requested a hearing on his temporary injunction so that he could fight in Arizona. However, prior to the hearing, the Nevada Athletic Commission filed a “Notice of Removal” to Federal Court. The removal is an automatic move to federal court from state court based on a federal issue that was filed in the Complaint. That federal issue was the allegation of a violation of Chavez, Jr.’s due process rights. Since then, the parties have agreed to “remand” the case back to Clark County so long as Chavez, Jr. amended his lawsuit. He has, but now time is of the essence with the hearing.
It appears that the State of Arizona is interested with the outcome as they will discuss the results at its monthly hearing on Wednesday. JCC’s atttorney attached an email correspondence from Arizona Department of Gaming’s Executive Director which requests a copy of the Judge’s ruling “as soon as possible.”

Chavez Jr’s argument is compelling, because the NSAC can’t suspend a license that doesn’t exist.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑17 Dec 2019, 18:01 Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was successful in his bid to secure a Temporary Restraining Order against Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and Bob Bennett, its executive director, as ruled Tuesday in the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada.
And the NSAC shouldn’t be attempting to administer drug testing to individuals that don’t possess one of their licenses.
Julio’s defence is pretty much the same as Jarrell Miller’s, because the NYSAC couldn’t suspend his license when he failed a drug test, because he didn’t possess one.
How can somebody’s license be suspended or revoked if they don’t even possess one.
In fact, the NSAC should actually apologise to Chavez Jr., because they shouldn’t have attempted to perform a drug test on him.
It’s like going up to some random bloke in the street and asking them to pîss into a cup or jab them with a needle for no reason whatsoever.

Jr has made a lot of money consideringhis results. He had 1 good round against andy lee that won him a trinket and 1 good round against sergio martinez. Thats pretty much it his whole career.
Got gifts against vera and vanda 2 club fighters, got the crap kicked out of him by fonfara and canelo, failed drug tests, misses training....what a fighter

will now take place at a modified catchweight of 173 pounds. An agreement was reached between the pair of former middleweight titlists—which includes an undisclosed settlement payable to Jacobs—after it was revealed that Chavez Jr. would be unable to comply with the previous contracted limit of 168 pounds.
