I would have read the Williams v Samil-Sam preview in Boxing News. I've got a fealing they edged towards Williams on points. It was all slowly downhill for Samil afterwards. I don't know if he was an alcoholic or was just unlucky to have a bad liver?

Certainly makes you wonder why John Rawling was so shocked by Williams' collapse, given that Sam was the favourite.

To be fair, I’ve made many random picks based on little more than a ‘feeling’. Usually turn out completely wrong (to never be mentioned again :OhYes: ), but once in a blue moon they are correct and I can pass myself off as a proper boxing guru for a while.

Williams = living legend. You could talk all day about his ring exploits. FWIW I was surprised at the Sam result.

Danny was an absolute warrior. The way he kept swinging at Vitali while taking a savage beating was madness, obviously the Potter fight aswell. Shame he keeps fighting.

I remember Volodymyr Virchis was reported to have fought drunk in his final loss. He managed wins over Julius Francis and Michael Sprott, and I suppose had much the same outlook on life as Samil-Sam.

Danny Williams in his 2003 BBC preview seemed to share the view most of us who had actually seen Sam box had. He just didn't look very good.

"I have seen a tape of Sam and it is quite surprising - despite the fact that he was a good amateur, he comes at you and fights with his face a lot."

It just struck me as a bizarre pick given his scanty record and I was genuinely curious to learn the reasoning behind it. Answer: Boxing News and the fact that years later he could go 12 rounds in tough fights. If I too could look into the future and see fighter's forms I think I could really make some great predictions!
I can't look into the future you fornicating numbnut - I just made a correct prediction! Verified by our very own James McDonnell who also remembers my pick of Sergio Martinez over Richard Williams (there was a boxing predictions forum on the site we both used...).

Boxing News an Eurosport - loads of boxing from Germany back in the day - I remember watching loads of Rene Monse at the time, so it wasn't like Sam was a complete stranger to our screens, he wasn't.

I don't know why you are so aggrived and embittered because nothing I said in my original post on here should have set you off into your cowardly little rant - go and have a lie down or put some more Christmas lights up - get some exercise! :TU:

Whereas he should have said 'His style is all wrong for me and I am going to get my head beat in'

Tough, strong, durable, fast hands, had a granite chin - all wrong for Danny Williams - even at the time.

Williams had some good fights but also had some shockers. The first fight with Harrison was one of the worst fights I've ever seen in a boxing ring. The Skelton fight was extremely bad. I know Skelton and Big Aud weren't exactly known for exciting fights but Williams was horrific to watch himself. He was bad in a few fights.

I'm not aggrieved or embittered, I was curious as to why you predicted Sam and you flew off the handle in the insulting style you are well known for on the various subforums here. You clearly have a lot of pent-up aggression. I note lots of projection where you try to paint the poster who has upset you as being some sort of frustrated loser, which is ironic given that you are a frustrated loser, a lonely and ageing drifter whose attempts at prose are pathetic and laughable. Sold any books yet?

Think Danny had had everything knocked out of him by Big Klit.

You're lying. I didn't fly off the handle at all. This is what I said to you in reply and then you made it personal (because you're a pudendum and a lying wanker...)

He was as hard as nails, a decorated amateur so it wasn't like he was a pile of poo, I knew as soon as soon as he stepped on Danny's shoes and pushed him back that he would stop him inside the distance.

Good fighter, a hard hard man as a heavyweight, fast hands, strong as an ox, could do 12 rounds - any of that incorrect?

Where am I being 'disrespectful' or 'flying off the handle' - where? I wouldn't mind the stupid lies if all the evidence wasn't up there for everyone for see, but it is!

You're making stuff up and being insulting in the way all kinds of cowards hiding behind anonmity do when they are safe under their rock. No-one has been disrespectful to you (at first anyway...) whereas I suppose you being that to me on here is better than doing it in real life that would result in a tanned jaw - you coward. :TU:

NB: As for my life achivements, I'll put them against yours anyday of the week. As for how many books I have sold - I take it you're capable of writing a book, never mind selling a copy?

In all fairness, I thought Kali Meehan was going to do him and it lasted 4 fornicating seconds!
Williams always was inconsistent. And, even as a prospect, many were stunned by how low his confidence was. Very brave and with a strong resistance to pain but I’d argue lacking, strategically. Was in memorable fights but also terriblly sluggish ones.

He very briefly got a bit of dynamism and speed when he got his weight under 17 stone for Scott Gammer (TKO 9). He complained that he didn’t feel strong and soon he was weighing over 18 stone again. It marked a fairly weak period for British domestic heavyweight boxing. The Julius Francis into Danny Williams era. Grim viewing!
