Round-by-Round: Davis vs. Gamboa | Pascal vs. Jack - December 28, 2019
Re: Round-by-Round: Davis vs. Gamboa | Pascal vs. Jack- December 28, 2019
Wow explosive ending. Davis lands a number of vicious punches and then a big uppercut. It’s over. KO rd 12.

Agreed. I'm not too high on Davis. He has tons of talent but suffers lapses. Same negative attributes that plagued Judah and Broner. I expect his management will steer clear of Lomachenko for as long as possible.gilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 01:30 Broner 2.0
This should've been easier than this for Davis. He's definitely going to win, but this was not supposed to be this hard.
He's lost 2 rounds, and let a badly faded fighter who damn near wanted to quit due to shoe issues just keep hanging in there, and giving him trouble.

In terms of Davis. He no question has power whether it can get him out of trouble at a higher level is questionable, I wouldn’t say he looked vulnerable, at not time did I see him hurt or outboxed however he’s output is a real issue. Being at such a light weight you’d expect more output, hes not a heavyweight after all.

He's gonna need to box better than that if he wants to beat Lomachenko

This reminded me of two classic fights: First, Hearns-DeWitt, where the guy supposed to get the easy win, Hearns, was not getting the knockout no matter how hard he tried (Hearns won that one by wide UD without knockdowns)
Then at the end, the way it finished it reminded me of Trinidad-Vargas, three knockdowns (plus in this case a 10-8 round I gave Davis in round ten I think it was) and then the final knockout despite Davis not really needing it.

Or just wait a few years for Loma to start sliding. There is no way today's version of Davis can create ANY problems for Loma.Grand_Cru54 wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 01:44 He's gonna need to box better than that if he wants to beat Lomachenko

He seemed gassed there for a while in rounds seven and early in round eight.Impractical Poster wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 01:39Agreed. I'm not too high on Davis. He has tons of talent but suffers lapses. Gamboa thinks he ruptured his Achilles’ tendon. Gamboa believe he will continue fighting. I was just critical of Davis output, Gamboa showed lots of heart however showed next to no output most rds. He should retire for his health he’s had an impressive career.

Kudos to Davis for at least getting the stoppage in the 12th.
Props to Gamboa for hanging tough as well as he did given what a huge underdog he was going in.
Respectable effort.
Davis definitely has talent, but he needs discipline in between fights because talent only takes you so far in and of itself.

Hell ironically enough I think "he should retire for his health" about Pascal. He won't. Because there's still big money fights out there for him, but the guy has taken a lot of punishment throughout his career, and I worry about the guy's long term health when he fights now. Especially when he goes through sh*t like he went through in that 12th round.

Oh and as they're recapping the night. I have to say I was very surprised at Lionell Thompson getting the W over Jose Uzcategui. Well deserved win no doubt, but I had no idea who Thompson was coming into the win, and his record didn't suggest a guy that'd be much of a threat. Real upset there.

Yea I agree about Pascal hes taken a beating from high class opposition. He reminds me of a shane Mosley in that he’s been on the losing side of some of the best names around his weight but also had some success. Can’t be good for the brain.gilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 01:50Hell ironically enough I think "he should retire for his health" about Pascal. He won't. Lol! That kind of music zaps your stamina.
Re: Round-by-Round: Davis vs. Gamboa | Pascal vs. Jack- December 28, 2019
Davis isn’t Broner. Davis has power that can carry him through against the top level. Broner isn’t a puncher like he is. That said any talk of Davis vs Loma right now is madness.
Re: Round-by-Round: Davis vs. Gamboa | Pascal vs. Jack- December 28, 2019
Devin Haney and Tevon Farmer both saying they want him on Twitter. Crawford said "Stay away from Haney and Loma"
Re: Round-by-Round: Davis vs. Gamboa | Pascal vs. Jack- December 28, 2019
Personally I feel Davis is much better than Broner however it’s still early days. What I remember of Broner is that he did rely on his power, mostly out-powering weaker opposition with single shots walking them down. There I can understand the comparison. Tank however seems more powerful and more skilful but let’s see him in with someone better to really make the assessment.,

Broner isn't in the same ballpark with Judah, zab was one of the most consistent fighters of the last several decades. Remains to be seen if tank hits his level, he's bad for loma.Impractical Poster wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 01:39Agreed. I'm not too high on Davis. He has tons of talent but suffers lapses. Tank is way better than Broner, the Broner comparisons are very superficial and apply really only to factors outside their actual performances and talents.

Tank looked Terrible vs Gamboa a 38 year old fighter.guy gassed out there in the late rounds.. If tank was fighting, Loma, Haney, Lopez, Commey, Campbell, tonight and they got past the third round tank would have been KO'd by all those fighters, Tank didn't look to be in good shape tonight..

Ya, not seeing that at all, he would easily beat Campbell and Commey and would have a real shot to beat each of the others too. He's really good even if he is a fatty midget

Imagine if tank went life and death with Linares? He'd be a super bum.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 03:33 Ya, not seeing that at all, he would easily beat Campbell and Commey and would have a real shot to beat each of the others too. He's really good even if he is a fatty midget

I figure he would have difficulties with Linares.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑29 Dec 2019, 03:35Imagine if tank went life and death with Linares?
