Sailor Kramer/Bud Oliver

Post by Ric »

So here's an interesting tidbit I discovered in The Leavenworth Echo newspaper (of Leavenworth, WA) the other day:

Bud Oliver had a bout with Doc Snell May 16, 1923 in Leavenworth.
Oliver:

Oliver's hometown is given as Bremerton, WA -- which is usually a clue that the boxer very well may be a sailor, as Bremerton has been a huge local naval community since 1898. He had a half-dozen bouts in the area in 1923.

That's not the interesting part. This is: On May 18, The Leavenworth Echo reported that Young Shannon, who fought on the same card, recognized Oliver as really being Sailor Kramer, 120, of San Francisco. The card:

This is because Shannon said he had previously fought Sailor Kramer. (Although there appears to be no record yet of this bout here in BoxRec.)
The paper further reported that Jimmy Murphy also recognized Oliver as being Kramer.

This other Bud Oliver record could well be Oliver #1/Kramer, based upon location & dates:

And our Bud Oliver record #3 might be, but is less clear:

Thoughts?
