Re: Eddie Hearn wants DAZN to increase rates from $20 to $50 a month
There was a lot of cynicism with the launch of boxing on Dazn and Eddie getting into bed with them big time.
Lot's of eyebrows raised over the prospect of world class boxing at a very reasonable low price-point per month. A lot of people said it wasn't sustainable, especially with the declining interest in the sport int he states.
And it appears these concerns were probably right. Price hikes for the service to be able to survive amounting to pretty hefty sums. I guess it's a tried and tested model. Sell low, gain traction and users/subscribers and then up the numbers taking a hit on declining numbers but ultimately more revenue.
Whether it will be enough to keep the service going is another thing altogether, to appease the purses and guaranteed money boxers demand these days.

Lets give dazn the benefit of the doubt and say there were 10 solid/interesting non wbss cards this year.
So.... 60 bucks each??? Yikes. And most of those werent traditional ppv worthy cards whatsoever
Nobody would have bought joshua v ruiz 1 in the us. Hooker v Ramirez is an espn main event. Ggg v derevyanchenko isnt ppv.

It’s $19.99 per month or $99 for the year one off payment. Which works out $8 per month.
Prior to the rise, when it launched, it was a standard $9.99 per month.

If he wants the full payment up front, he needs to convince people that the product is worth paying for, he can't do that. You don't take away the interest of those paying monthly as you'll kill the service.
Also we talk about their competition being Showtime, it's not, their real competition is Amazon Prime, they'll be the ones bidding when the NFL rights and NBA rights go out again, they are the things DAZN US need to win in the future. Don't piss off the fans who are keeping you afloat now or their won't be a service when those rights become available.

Exactly right, boxing can serve as a useful 5th or 6th option like it is on ESPN+, no way they can make money at dazn without a bigger sport.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:26 If he wants the full payment up front, he needs to convince people that the product is worth paying for, he can't do that. The NFL contract is currently worth 15.2 billion dollars per year. It expires in 2022.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:45Exactly right, boxing can serve as a useful 5th or 6th option like it is on ESPN+, no way they can make money at dazn without a bigger sport.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:26 If he wants the full payment up front, he needs to convince people that the product is worth paying for, he can't do that. I fully expect dazn to bid on it if it is serious about being a permanent American streaming service

I thought the NFL ticket was up after this year. Jeez, by 2022 hear may have lost close to a billion for them.tiny_acres wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:55The NFL contract is currently worth 15.2 billion dollars per year. It expires in 2022.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:45

Probably will have lost at least a billion by then.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:58I thought the NFL ticket was up after this year. Jeez, by 2022 hear may have lost close to a billion for them.tiny_acres wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:55

But they're going to need serious investors because the nfl contract will probably cost the 20 billion per year by then

Wasn’t the $1b DAZN deal a 10 year deal?tiny_acres wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 20:02Probably will have lost at least a billion by then.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑02 Jan 2020, 19:58

Reading the interview, I'm not sure it really screams 'DAZN IS LOSING MONEY' although that may be true, I think he was just trying to sell the yearly package.

There is no question they're losing a fortune.
