After returning from a 9-month layoff last August (due to a promotional dispute) 24-0 Jaron "Boots" Ennis will have his 3rd fight in 4 1/2 months with a 10-round bout next week against once-beaten Bakhtiyar Eyubov of Kazakhstan. Eyubov suffered his first loss last June to unbeaten U.S. prospect Brian Ceballo. Ennis was a top-notch amateur standout who was 2016 Olympic alternate at 141 pounds after losing in the Olympic Trials final to Gary Antuanne Russell.
Top welterweight prospect Jaron “Boots” Ennis will get his 2020 started early, as he’s set to face Bakhtiyar Eyubov on Showtime’s Jan. 10 card, featuring Claressa Shields vs Ivana Habazin in the main event.
“I’m coming to make another statement to the welterweight division and the world,” said Ennis. “I’m going to let them know that I’m here and that 2020 will be my year. I’m the future of this division and January 10 is the next step in proving that.”
“On January 10, Jaron Ennis is going to be in the hardest fight of his life,” Eyubov said. “He has never faced anyone with my strength, skills and will to win. Bakha Bullet will shoot to do damage in Atlantic City and hand Ennis his first loss.”
