Re: Dillian Whyte - April 2020
If he fights Ruiz and the fight is priced reasonably close, that’s a gift because Ruiz isn’t losing
Re: Dillian Whyte - April 2020
Well you could look at it another way, in that he did indeed KO Jennings, whilst Joyce went the distance with Jennings coming off a loss.

Rivas was up on the cards when he stopped Jennings
Re: Dillian Whyte - April 2020
You definitely watched neither of the fights you mentioned. Rivas was deservedly up on the cards and the wide margin you're speaking of was bought and paid for. Jennings arguably won that.

Helenius I agree with, but at the time both Browne and Parker were favoured by many to beat Whyte. The fact that Browne (in particular) has done nothing since is irrelevant.Avitar wrote: ↑01 Jan 2020, 20:46 Whyte record is actually quite padded plenty of names but aside from parker all on the slide.
Browne - completely finished
Helenius - zero heart just kina gave up
Chisora - went life and death both times
Parker - almost got ko in the end
I'd bet money they will go for an old povetkin next and stay away from ruiz
Chisora has always been a more dangerous opponent than people give him credit for.
Rivas was also a good win, but with the drug thing he may never get full credit for that.

Re: Dillian Whyte - April 2020
My questions
1. Which other contenders have better records? Not many
2. What level do most people place him at? I hardly see many people acting like he's an elite HW up there with the usual 3 names
Parker
Rivas
Chis x2
Helenius
Wach
Browne
I mean, it's not Ali's resume, but in a division today where so few go out there and really fight to show their worth, this ain't bad at all and of course you can put a negative spin on any result. Povetkin or Ruiz would be solid wins too.

He's in an odd position where he's opponents are overrated by casuals and the Hearn gang but underrated by serious boxing fans. Yeah Browne turned out to be shocking but he could only take on what was in front of him (an unbeaten fighter who a lot of people favoured). To his credit, he could've thought Wallin and Schwarz and waited around for his title shot

I think he's well above the level of Ruiz.oogiebe wrote: ↑01 Jan 2020, 20:58I agree with that. Whyte isn't on the level everyone seems to think.Avitar wrote: ↑01 Jan 2020, 20:46 Whyte record is actually quite padded plenty of names but aside from parker all on the slide.

I just don’t see that. You think Whyte could get through a slugfest with Andy?

I think it's fairly obvious Ruiz will never sort his weight out, and will now just be a journeyman losing on points to every prospect going.

Yeah reminds of Buster Douglas. Gets in terrific shape for the Tyson fight, guarantees himself a fortune for the next fight vs Hokyfield and proceed to come in grossly out of shape for that fight.
If Ruiz couldn't curb his eating habits for a fight of this magnitude, he might even be worse for future "lesser" fights like a potential bout with Whyte.

Ruiz has never been in as good of shape as Douglas was for holyfield. I get your point but Andy isn't anywhere near busters level.

Re: Dillian Whyte - April 2020
I like Whyte, he's dragged himself into a very nice position being a ppv fighter in his own right. Whether he deserves it or not is another debate, but from his beginnings that is some achievement.
I do not think he's in a rush to fight any of the top 3, and it suits him to have been waiting for so long for another shot which gives the image of being a victim of boxing politics (which he may well be) but At the same time lining his pockets with big paydays on PPV cards. I suspect he's far happier with his current arrangement than he would ever admit.
I would like to see him against Wilder because the build up would be hilarious, but realistically you gotta think he would walk onto a Wilder humdinger at some point. He's not that difficult to hit is Whyte.
I do think Whyte has had a good run and the coin has dropped in his favour a few times now. I do think it could all come undone very quickly for him though
If we look at his last few fights:
Chisora 1 - Very close fight, I had Whyte winning it, but he got dragged into a slugfest and literally nicked it on the cards. That one could have easily gone the other way, and without too much of an argument.
Helenius - Negative showing from Helenius and Whyte struggled to find a way to his chin. Whyte was messy coming forward which he doesn't seem to have improved much on. Still a good win for Whyte at that time.
Browne - Browne took a beating before being knocked out. On paper it was a good win, but Browne was never in it for one second and was clearly a very faded force.
Parker - Bullied Parker around and got away with it, not a pretty fight, scored a good knockdown but was far more hurt himself in the 12th. It's still a good win though.
Chisora 2 - Got out boxed for most of the fight and landed a brilliant punch to win it. What went on before the knockdown was a worry.
Rivas - A good win, showed vulnerability getting knocked down in the 9th and also showed a lot of steel to carry on and see out the victory. Big props for Whyte taking this fight, a lot of the big names had turned Rivas down.
Wach - Shocker, out of shape and got knocked about. I think this fight more than any other shows that Whyte has to keep on his A game. There isn't much of a threshold for Whyte to be on top form and then this.
I just wonder if Whyte's momentum has been derailed, the next fight is going to be very interesting. I could see him getting the better of Povetkin who is quite some way past his best. Ruiz Jr would give him problems though.
