WoW! I wonder if Gamboa was 100% healthy vs the pudgy Davis? So they picked a one legged old-washed up Gamboa and Davis could've not finished him early?!

Gamboa was such a great talented fighter back in the day. What a warrior! It's a pity that he could not fight Juan Manuel Lopez and Chris John back in 2009-2010.

They did't pick a one legged old-washed up Gamboa.

He wasn't injured before the fight was he? Didn't he snap it in rd 2?

Gamboa proved he has a big heart for a 38 y/o fighter. Davis could not KO a one legged, washed up opponent.

Gamboa has been around for a long time, but fight-wise its not like he's had 70 fights like Manny P. Floyd was 38 if I remember right when he fought Manny, and no one felt sorry for him or called him washed.

As far as the Achilles, totally snapped like the OP is claiming has to be false, otherwise he wouldn't be able to even walk. Regardless props to him for fighting on like he did. Good test for Davis. Some big shots were thrown both ways, and he got the KO.

That is absolutely true. It may gave been torn, but ruptured? I think not.

There was nothing wrong with Gamboa. He's an old man that simply tried to survive vs a young prospect who couldn't really be bothered.

It looks like an old scar in the picture, where he perhaps had previous surgery on an old achilles injury? If so it may explain his heel looking somewhat deformed.

Good observation! It's obvoius that Gamboa had some old problems on his achilles tendon. That looks like an old surgery scar.

So as I said, Tank wasn't able to take out early an old, washed up, one legged Gamboa.

Lightweight veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa said after Saturday’s loss to Gervonta Davis that he thought he’d ruptured his right Achilles tendon in the second round of the fight, and ESPN reports that after an MRI, that fear is confirmed. What’s still in question, according to Gamboa adviser Tony Gonzalez, is the severity.

“There is a rupture,” Gonzalez told ESPN. “They just don’t know how bad it is yet. A lot of people have reached out to us after what they saw Saturday because they don’t know how he was able to keep fighting, but he’s a warrior.”

I guess that's the things they don't talk about too much these days...trying to preserve the clean image of the legend? At least Muhammad Ali and Jake LaMotta had the courage to face up their (horrible) shortcoming in public...

There was a documentary focused on it. Fans just pick and choose whom they judge.

Wondering who will be Davis next oponent. Will fans tolerate Leo Santa Cruz? that guy fought in 118 and 122 lbs :-/ . Devin Haney called him out but i think Davis camp will avoid that, because Haney is all bad for Tank. Considering Haney is only 20 years old, he is not going anywhere. I really think we will see Davis vs Lopez/Loma winner later because i cannot believe they will match Davis against Haney

After Davis and Haney's sparring session, I doubt Davis gets in the ring with him. I found Davis' "you don't win in sparring" comment after the Haney debacle quite amusing since he brought up that he made Gamboa quit in sparring before.

What has Davis done outside the ring remotely close than domestic violence?

I feel the severity of Yuriorkis Gamboa’s injury in the Gervonta Davis bout may have been embellished somewhat. He probably only suffered a partial rupture or a partial tear, which may not have had such a significant effect on his fighting ability to the same degree his team would have us believe:

After all, Yuriorkis Gamboa won't have to undergo any form of surgery surgery to address his injured Achilles tendon.

The preferred narrative of fight fans is to exaggerate and celebrate Gamboa’s ability to compete regardless of his injury, since their preferred narrative is to undermine Gervonta Davis’ victory, but the reality is that many fighters compete whilst carrying minor niggles and injuries.

Very few fighters go through training camps unscathed. They almost always enter the ring having to cope with a variety of aches and pains due to the toil their chosen profession has on their bodies.
