Josh Taylor signs for Toprank. Cyclone not happy.

Post by Glass Joe »

Taylor signs for toprank, Cyclone claims Taylor is breaking his contract.

Frampton left cyclone (that's gone to court) Chantelle Cameron left (think that's gone to court) Now Taylor (that's probably going to court)

Taylor wouldn't have jumped ship if it wasn't for a multi-million fight deal.

I would imagine he will be like Fury. He won't be training with Shane Mcguigan that's for sure.

IBF and WBA champion Taylor (16-0, 12 KOs) has also signed a multi-year promotional agreement with Top Rank, as he looks to continue his quest to becoming the undisputed super-lightweight king.

Taylor said: “A new year, a new decade with lots of new beginnings and I’m starting this new decade with a Big Bang.

"2019 was a huge year for me, but 2020 looks set to be even bigger and I’m delighted to have signed a deal with Top Rank & ESPN and an advisory contract with MTK Global.

"I believe I am with the best team to take my career to the next level & I can’t wait to see what the future holds, I couldn't ask for a better partnership and know the future looks bright with this team lighting the way."

MTK Global Professional Development Coordinator Jamie Conlan added: “Josh Taylor was 2019 Fighter of the Year and won the Word Boxing Super Series in fantastic fashion with his win over Regis Prograis.

"He's now linking up with Top Rank and MTK Global, so his sights are solely set on unifying the division and becoming a global star on both sides of the Atlantic.

This is a momentous partnership for all involved. MTK Global and Top Rank have a recent history of working together with world class fighters and with Josh Taylor we believe that the best is yet to come, so 2020 will be huge!”

Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum said: “Josh Taylor is one of the world’s best fighters, and he is a fight fan’s fighter, a tough guy willing to fight anyone we put in front of him.

"Whether it’s Jose Ramirez in a fight for the undisputed junior welterweight title or any of the welterweights out there, he’s ready for the biggest challenges. I want to thank Josh’s advisors at MTK Global, who have the same goal as us, which is to make him an international star.”

Toprank made more sense as they have got Jose Ramirez and Taylor not really a PPV fighter over here, like Brook would need a decent dance partner.

Aye good point. Clears the way for a big unification if Ramirez gets past Postol next month.

The biggest shame is if he parts way with Shane. I rate Shane and Josh has shown improvements when he has stepped up. If he leaves Shane would Booth be a good fit? doesnt Josh live in London now?

Interesting news.

It's been said for a while that Bob Arum has his eye on the UK PPV market, but, as someone's already said, Taylor would need the right opposition to make that pay.

It makes the Ramirez fight much easier to make, would love to see that.

New trainer required, although I can't see many being critical of how Shane McGuigan has done with Taylor.

I know that they aren't popular (and I don't claim to know the ins and outs of the Frampton case) but could anyone genuinely fault how Cyclone have developed and matched Taylor - pretty much a textbook way to bring along a world class talent. Plenty of challenging match-ups and little or no treading water. Actually, come to think about it, I would say the same about Frampton's career under them. A few other promoters could take note.

I think he just stays there when he's in camp mate. He still stays out Edinburgh way with his Mrs.. Be interesting to see who he goes with now. I rate McGuigan as well so it's a shame but that being said, i'd like to see Josh box a bit more rather than getting in to tear ups. He's got skills to burn.

Cyclone done an excellent job with Taylor but money talks i suppose. Pity. Hopefully it's sorted amicably but somehow i can't see that happening...

Yeah, I know that they're hardly flavour of the month amongst their ex-fighters and fans, but the match-making was very, very good.

On a much lower level, they've matched Chris Billiam-Smith well recently too.

Shocked :o

After all the effort and expertise the McGuigans have put in, it seems pretty disgraceful to me.

Frampton hasn't looked as good since he parted company with Cyclone IMO and sadly I expect the same for Taylor, who admittedly is a considerably better fighter than Carl was/is.

Shows his intention to fight the best by signing with top rank, be a shame if he loses his trainer though, I wonder what’s gone on behind the scenes to make him leave though.

I don't know the legal situation, but Josh is a pro boxer and it's hardly some shameful, unethical thing to make a move that brings him bigger money and better fights. Any promoter pretty much works on the same mindset, they just get upset when someone else makes a move for the better

Sometimes boxing makes me sick.

Barry McGuigan has done a very good job with Taylor.

I am not surprised by todays news.

The only thing that makes me smile about todays news is Taylor did not sign for Hearn.
