Any time Max Kellerman any talks about “the story of the fight” or references Ward-Kovalev 2 - or both.

Any time Kellerman talks about “who you’d rather be.” You can see the nerdy hero identification that he seems to be using.

All of Kellerman’s convoluted sentences, full of subordinate clauses and digressions, that sound like they belong in an essay.

actually i believe it's a backfist in Karate (Uraken), and it isn't the back of the hand but the knuckles, they just travel in a different (backhanded) trajectory to a normal punch

anyway, clearly commentators just use 'back hand' in the same way as they would say 'rear hand', I don't know why anyone would get wound up over it

I know boxing trainers use “backhand” but then Macklin started using “straight backhand” during colour commentator gig and believe you me it’s hard on the ears.

Poor form when the blow by blow guys follow suit.

3 fights in (about) 12 months for today's world class boxers is not common at all (especially as they will be in 3 quality contests), so I'd completely disagree with him and think these WBSS tournaments are an absolute good send for boxing.

I’ve noticed Macklin has started dining off the “backhand” now. I don’t recall him doing it to begin with but it’s all th time now. Big Ron likes a backhand too....

I think the benefit of calling it a backhand is that it covers both orthodox and southpaw boxers, I teach boxing fitness classes and have finally taught myself not to use the words left and right when teaching a class, so just jab, cross, lead uppercut, rear uppercut and lead hook which applies wether your right or left handed.

Why did Carpenter dislike Finnegan? I know that Kevin played up at Wembley when his brother Chris was robbed of the ABA middleweight title against Allan Ball in 1967, jumping into the ring adorned in a blonde wig but I've never heard that Carpenter disliked Kevin, although it is a bit before my time.

Interesting. When Tony Sibson stopped Frankie Lucas for the British middleweight title in a big upset, some of his fans stormed the ring and one spat on Harry Mullan's back, which was nice of him. Kevin Finnegan later beat Sibbo for the title and Harry must have enjoyed that one. Finnegan and Mark Kaylor were two of his favourites.

Holdsworth was kind of chilled out and opinionated. Very opinionated. If you disagreed with him, chances are you’re really going to resist him.

First Holdsworth broadcast I ever heard, he rubbed me the wrong way. It was the classic Barrera v McKinney. He said something like, with Barrera so easy to hit, I’d give Wayne McCullough a Chance. And that if McKinney can hit him so often,” there’s no doubt Naseem Hamed can knock him spark out”.

Just came across as too bold and cocky for me.

Granted, Barrera was too easy to hit and paid for it especially in that first fight with Junior Jones. But I was so pleased when he regrouped, overcame an epic and debatable loss to Morales, before going up a weight and defusing and ultimately playing with Hamed.
