Stadium Fights.

Post by stujones »

Was watching a youtube thing on Groves vs Froch and there seems to be this thing that Groves vs Froch started this "stadium fight" thing - but really this is not the case, sure it was the first WEMBLEY stadium fight since Bruno vs McCall (I think anyway) but it got me thinking about other stadium fights that seem to have been forgot.

My memory is getting hazy, so just wondering what to people remember of these other stadium fights - was the stadium full, what was the capacity and general recollection - Sky make such a big deal of the stadium fight, but so many seem to be forgotton.

Bugner vs Bruno - wasn't that at White Hart Lane? That fight was huge, can remember as a kid.

Eubank vs Watson 2 - obviously never forgotton - White Hart Lane.

Eubank vs Benn 2 - Old Trafford.

Bruno vs Lewis - National Stadium Cardiff.

Robinson vs Hamed - Cardiff Arms Park - (note not national stadium).

Millenim Stadium - Headlined - Calzaghe vs Kessler, Calzaghe vs Manfredo, WIlliams vs Skelton!, Joshua vs Takam, Joshua vs Parker.

Campbell vs Coyle - Hull. Coyle vs Matthews - Hull

McDonnell won his world title in Doncaster Stadium.

Bellew won his title in Goodison Park.

Brook vs Spence Jnr - Bammel Lane.

Sure I've missed out loads - suprised Khan never done the Reebok properly.

Chisora vs Haye - Upton Park? Its forgotten how big that one was.

Mitchell vs Katisidis - Upton Park.

Hatton vs Lazcano - Manchester City

Eubank-Watson 2 was real television. I watched with my dad, he’d just had a row with his bird and her mam kept ringing the landline to have a go at him. He was in the kitchen answering the phone when the end came, so rang her back to go mad with her!
I was at Calzaghe-Kessler, Brook-Spence, Campbell-Coyle, Hatton-Lazcano. I don’t really like stadium fights though.

I don't think the national stadium existed in time for Hamed v Robinson, as Lewis v Bruno

Yes - The old Welsh National Stadium - before the current Millenium one.... Hamed vs Robinson was in Cardiff Arms Park where Cardiff Rugby play their Rugby.... Bruno vs Lewis was where Wales played Rugby before Millenium.

Ok yes, I got mixed up, both stadiums were sometimes called the arms park, it even says on the poster for Lewis the arms park!
