Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - TBA
This is it. This is how Campbell wins his first world title. Has had 2 attempts, losing to better boxers no doubt. Some though he nicked the Linares fight.
3rd attempt now. Vacant belt. Fortuna is kind of a on/off fighter.
Would have been more credible beating a champion, especially in an era where we have 4 titles per weight class. But a belts a belt. And a win here will set up a Devin Haney fight.

Would still be his best win probably, I thought Fortuna beat Robert Easter. He is hot and cold like you say .

Was that they fight that took place on the Spence-Peterson undercard? Many thought he got robbed. He carelessly lost a point too which didn’t help him.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑17 Jan 2020, 15:59 Would still be his best win probably, I thought Fortuna beat Robert Easter. Re: Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - TBA
Campbell should take this on points. Still won't be a legit world champion though. The situation the WBC have created here is embarrassing.

Re: Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - TBA
Javier Fortuna and Luke Campbell are due to collide for the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title, with their ordered fight now heading to a purse bid hearing. WBC officials have confirmed to BS.com that the purse bid will take place January 21 at its headquarters in Mexico City, Mexico.
The session will be open to all promoters registered with the sanctioning body, with the primary requirement for the winning bidder to submit a 10% non-refundable deposit along with a proposed date and location to stage the bout. The split will be 50/50 as Fortuna and Campbell are the two highest rated contenders.

Why is this happening? They we're scheduled to fight in an eliminator then the winner fights Haney this summer when he's recovered from injury. No idea why they stripped Haney when it didn't effect the time line. Hearn is gifting Campbell a belt as he isn't good enough to win one legitimately
Re: Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - TBA
Good fight. Fortuna was robbed versus Easter. I favour Campbell on home soil but this is on paper a close fight.

WBC made Haney Champion in recess instead. Tbh they could have just had this as an eliminator but it will sell more if it’s for a world title.rio wrote: ↑20 Jan 2020, 06:28 Why is this happening? Re: Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - TBA
Handlers for Javier Fortuna and Luke Campbell were able to come to terms for their World Boxing Council (WBC)-ordered vacant lightweight title fight, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman informed Boxing Scene.
“Eddie Hearn (Campbell’s promoter) and Sampson Boxing (Fortuna’s promoter) have confirmed that they have reached an agreement for the Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna WBC lightweight championship,” said Sulaiman. “Therefore, the purse bid hearing has been canceled.”

He's been a significant player in boxing for a long time, he was one of Sergio Martinez's guys and has worked with lots of fighters. Think he regularly works with PBC too. If you watch Martinez KTFOing Williams you can see him jump up ringside on the far left

Re: Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - TBA
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn told ESPN on Wednesday that he hopes to bring a major DAZN show – April 11 or April 25 – to the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. He said he'd like to have it headlined by a fight between former junior welterweight titlists Maurice Hooker and Regis Prograis, which is being negotiated but not close to finalized. Even without that bout, he said two other fights he has deals for would be on the card: undisputed women's lightweight champion Katie Taylor against Amanda Serrano and a vacant lightweight world title bout between Luke Campbell and Javier Fortuna.

Rooting for Luke but Fortuna is quite dangerous.
Re: Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - TBA
Agree. Campbell just isn't that good. Been found wanting 3 times now, 2 of which were world level. This is defo his last chance surely?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Jan 2020, 17:49I don't think Campbell has shown himself to be so good that this is a gift of a belt for himrio wrote: ↑20 Jan 2020, 06:28 Why is this happening? Linares he fought well and his dad died 10-14 days before - couldn’t have been easy & kept it quiet.
Loma - lb for lb.
The 2 title shots have not been that bad - this is best chance he’ll get now.

Re: Luke Campbell vs. Javier Fortuna - 17 April 2020
Boxing Scene has learned that plans have been finalized for an intriguing April 17 card, to air live on DAZN from MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Topping the bill, Regis Prograis and Maurice Hooker collide in a battle of junior welterweights who both saw their respective title reigns and unbeaten records dissolve in the past year. Terms have been reached for their long-discussed bout, according to parties with direct knowledge of prior negotiations.
Paired up with the pick-‘em main event will be a vacant lightweight title clash between England’s Luke Campbell and Dominican Republic’s Javier Fortuna. As previously reported by BS.com, the two sides have long ago reached terms for their title fight, which remained in search of a home until late last week.

Wonder if Campbell will still fight for the plastic WBC title after Corona, surely Devin Haney won't be injured.
