Oldschool and forgotten styles and techniques?

Post by Winter king »

When I read Mike Tysons biography i found it fascinating that he rather studied oldschool fighters style like Jack Dempsey also When Foreman fought Smokin Joe he used a lot of arm blocks that were not really used anymore.

What do you guys think are some of the old school styles and techniques that could perform well if some newcomer mastered it or them especially in heavyweight where we now have mostly boxer puncher giants .

the "Bumpy" Johnson was a great proactive offense. Really put opponents off kilter, making them worried about what would come next.

It’s called evolution. I never try to compare era’s, it doesn’t work but I can’t think of a great giant boxer pre-1985. By this, I mean athletic, powerful, great jab, good footwork and intelligent.

Hooking off the jab isn't done very much anymore. Also, an uppercut to the body followed by a cross with the same hand. Also, catching a jab in the glove and then countering with the same hand before the jab is pulled back; Harold Johnson was great doing that.

Seems like fighting with your hands up is getting less and less common.....
