Why is Kostya Tszyu listed as a Russian?
He is a naturalised Australian and has been for over a decade. He lives in New South Wales and has a family and business here too so I figure he's sticking around for a while. Maybe his represented flag should reflect this :)

...didn't see that one. My point still stands though as they seem to be arguing that the boxer should be listed according to where that person comes into this world, not where that person chooses to live in it.
It seems pretty straight forward to me. If your passport says your an American citizen then you're an American citizen, regardless of where you were born. Same goes for everyone other country.
...but that's just me :)

What about boxeres who have multiple citizenship?
This is fairly common, a lot of states if you wish to renounce citzenship require that you tell their officials that you wish to renounce citizernship, otherwise it is retained, this is the case of both the UK and the USA. For example the UK disregards the renuciation of other citzenships contained in the US naturalisation ceremony, it has no effect on whether you are a British citizen.

I think "nationality" is a useless item on Boxrec.
Primo Carnera, for example was a US citizen (and proud of it) yet he is listed as Italian. By the same token, it would be ludicrous to list him as American!
For research purposes, place of birth is important. This allows researchers to pinpoint the location where they would need to search for birth records, for example.
Hometown is fairly useful, though, of course, amny fighters change there homeown.
The CBZ keeps a record of "ethnicity" meant to encompass the backround of the fighter. So, Marciano is "Italian-american," Pete Latzo Slav-American, etc.
