That appears to be the case. I was a huge Duran fan, obviously you weren't. I couldn't care less what athletes say. Hard to imagine you can find anyone respectful if filming a commercial with a mascot bothers you.

Re: SIze and weight of fighters
Most people haven’t got a clue how physically big a fighter is because they’re always fighting someone of a similar stature so if you were watching a flyweight match on tv with a casual and you told them they were middleweights they wouldn’t question it, I boxed in the lighter weights and can tell you there’s a world of difference between those smaller divisions

Been an MMA fan for near 20 years and it always bothers me how little respect the little guys get from MMA fans. There could never be a Barrera, Morales, or Hamed in MMA and it's a damn shame. I wonder how much of it is because there are so many fans who crossed over from pro wrestling.

Total manlets lol!! I've never had a single pro fight but I'm a big tough bloke, a 'real' man, and I'd manhandle the wee fellas! Let's read some quotes from the respectable Tyson Fury. He takes it to a whole new level.

I have respect for the skill of the small guys too but lets be honest, I just cant get pumped for a fight where it looks like the referee is seperating his prepubescent kids.
It doesnt matter how skilled you are at 52 kg bodyweight. Any ranked heavyweight would smash your face in. Heavyweight is more interesting to me cuz tehere is a lot more vareity in height and size. I do aggree though that the stretch between lightheavy and cruiser is way too big. I would be the person who would be comfortable around 85kg if that was my carreer.

Re: SIze and weight of fighters
I’m the other way round, heavyweight is a bit like a freakshow to me, they’re not normal sized people just big lumbering giants with weak skill sets, Floyd is 5”8 and Manny is 5”5 so both would be considered small men but both carried the sport for years due to their skill sets, there have been lots of heavies worth watching over the years but there’s been far more many fighters from the lighter weights that can display boxing at its best, so I’ll take Inoue v Donaire or Carbajal v Gonzales over Wilder v Fury or Joshua v Ruiz any day of the week,, Manny smashing through the divisions was far more captivating than anything the heavies could produce, the heavies are the poster boys but really can’t compete with what the lighter weights offerWinter king wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 05:57 I have respect for the skill of the small guys too but lets be honest, I just cant get pumped for a fight where it looks like the referee is seperating his prepubescent kids.

I aggree that under heavyweight people usually display better skills because they just cant rely on their physique as much as an Anthony Joshua for example but still Floyd Mayweather couldnt do what he does against Wladimir Klitschko or Mike Tyson.littlepug wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 06:34I’m the other way round, heavyweight is a bit like a freakshow to me, they’re not normal sized people just big lumbering giants with weak skill sets, Floyd is 5”8 and Manny is 5”5 so both would be considered small men but both carried the sport for years due to their skill sets, there have been lots of heavies worth watching over the years but there’s been far more many fighters from the lighter weights that can display boxing at its best, so I’ll take Inoue v Donaire or Carbajal v Gonzales over Wilder v Fury or Joshua v Ruiz any day of the week,, Manny smashing through the divisions was far more captivating than anything the heavies could produce, the heavies are the poster boys but really can’t compete with what the lighter weights offerWinter king wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 05:57 I have respect for the skill of the small guys too but lets be honest, I just cant get pumped for a fight where it looks like the referee is seperating his prepubescent kids.

Re: SIze and weight of fighters
I don’t see that as relevant, Floyd is too small to box a heavyweight so what ? Gatti v Ward, Chavez v Taylor, Leonard v Duran, Morales v Barrera, Hamed v Kelly, Nelson v Fenech the list of displays of fantastic boxing matches are endless at the lower weights, Heavyweight boxing can produce some good stuff but more often than not it’s disappointing and nothing more than a money making side/freak show

Duran is actually one of my favourites. I also love ward but I prefer the heavyweights because there is more possible variations and the heavyweight champ is the ultimate champ thats all.littlepug wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 09:05 I don’t see that as relevant, Floyd is too small to box a heavyweight so what ? That’s fair enough we all have our different viewpoints that should be respected, I don’t see them as the ultimate champs as I see more skill, speed, power (p4p) heart and fitness below that division, they’re just big that’s all, we’ve had cruisers, Light Heavies and middleweights move up and beat decent heavies which shouldn’t really happen, anyway we’ll agree to disagreeWinter king wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 11:04Duran is actually one of my favourites. I disagree.
Golf, Tennis have 4 Grand Slams - being a "world Champion" is like winning one of those.
In a sport as hard as boxing I@m fine with it.
It's the poxy ffs 112 lbs, 115, 118, 122 etc. @ the lower weights that make too many belts more than the 'too many belts' !

Winning one of the belts in a weight class is nothing like winning one of the grand slams.
Tennis players don't get to choose their opponent, location or date.
There is no bargaining table or weight classes.
There is no moving up a division to cherry pick the weakest of four grand slam champions.
There are no competing promoters or network contracts preventing the best matchups from happening.
No politics preventing a player holding and defending all four grand slam titles.
At the start of every year boxing fans are subjected to numerous wish lists for the new year. These wish lists are always a list of fights we hope to see but know that most are extremely unlikely to actually happen.
In tennis there are no such wish lists, the best facing the best is unavoidable.

In an ideal world boxing would be run like tennis however it’s not and we have to put up with this endless nonsense.
Re: SIze and weight of fighters
It’s a tough gig being at the bottom end of the weights, 2lbs down there is like 7lbs to the bigger guys, I’d be more inclined to have a go at the “should be cruisers” operating at Heavyweight just because they’re too bone idle to make weightskanksta wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 19:39I disagree.

Re: SIze and weight of fighters
Too many belts isn't the problem, boxers are way overpaid. Now they risk their lives every time out but there is no incentive for the best to fight the best. When I was growing up boxing was huge, way bigger than college football, but to make life changing money Leonard and hearns had to fight each other. Y'all know that boza Edwards had his fights watched by 8-9 million Americans? The casinos and cable TV gave promoters the money to stop working. Sport is a losing investment and the product shows that.
Re: SIze and weight of fighters
Of course, tennis - and almost every other sport in the world - is better run than boxing, but 'it is what it is'.Perseus wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 22:28skanksta wrote: ↑24 Jan 2020, 19:39

In the meantime, I still think that golfists and tennisers grow up wanting to win a Grand Slam and boxers want to win a world title - it's a similar thing in achievement, even if the sports are very different.
