Press Release

THE EVENT WILL BE HELD AT MERIDIAN AT ISLAND GARDENS AHEAD OF THE BIG GAME

The rumored grudge match between YouTube stars Jake “The Problem Child” Paul and AnEsonGib is finally official and will take center stage as the co-main event of a huge night of boxing from Miami on Thursday, Jan. 30, and streamed live exclusively on DAZN in the United States. DAZN, the world’s largest sports streaming service, and Matchroom Boxing USA will present a special night of boxing which also feature three world championship fights ahead of the big game in Miami.

Jake Paul, 22, is the most viewed internet star in the United States with more than 36 million followers across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. In addition to his huge success as a content creator on social media, the Ohio native, who now calls California home, has flourished as a musician and actor in recent years. Jake made his amateur boxing debut in 2018, where he defeated KSI’s brother. Along with his brother Logan Paul, who fought KSI on DAZN in November, Jake is passionate about conquering professional boxing and has his sights set on avenging his brother’s loss against KSI in 2020.

“Coming into the sport of boxing as an undefeated champion amongst my peers, it’s my duty to set the bar as high as possible for others looking to cross over into the sport,” said Jake Paul. “This is more than a fight to me, it’s a chance to show the world that anyone with a dream, vision, and the right work ethic, can overcome adversity and shine on the brightest stage. This bout has deep roots; it’s a fight for my brother’s honor, my pride and most importantly my loyal fans who are among the best in the world. This is the American dream. Thursday, January 30, on DAZN, my opponent’s 15 minutes of fame turn into 10 seconds of counting stars as he lays unconscious on the canvas. And then, I’m coming for that wanker KSI.”

AnEsonGib, who is known commonly as Gib, rose to popularity through video gaming, most particularly as a standout FIFA player. He is a member of the famous gaming crew The Sidemen in the U.K., his home country, which also features KSI. Gib, 23, has been linked to a fight with Jake Paul for many months as the two men exchanged words often throughout the KSI vs. Logan Paul 2 promotion. Gib has fought two amateur bouts in the U.K. and will also make his professional debut.

“After six months of Jakey ducking, the fight is finally going down,” said AnEsonGib. “He had no choice of his opponent, I chose him. Since my last fight I have been training nonstop and January 30 in Miami, I will end the fight in devastating fashion and will have my hand raised in front of his country, family and friends. Jake Paul is going to be my walking, talking ad for the rest of his days.”

In the main event of the evening, undefeated middleweight star Demetrius Andrade (28-0, 17 KOs) will defend his WBO World Middleweight championship against contender Luke Keeler (17-2-1, 5 KOs). Also featured on the packed evening of boxing is Tevin Farmer (30-4-1, 6 KOs) defending his IBF world super featherweight title against JoJo Diaz (30-1, 15 KOs) and unified world super bantamweight champion Daniel Roman (27-2-1, 10 KOs) defending his titles against Murodjon Akhmadaliev (7-0, 6 KOs).

DAZN presents Miami Fight Night, brought to you by Matchroom Boxing USA will be held at Meridian at Island Gardens. Meridian is a 65,000 square-foot custom built multi-level premier live event and entertainment experience that will play host to additional VIP events. DAZN and Matchroom Boxing USA will kick off the big week at Meridian as the first of three nights of entertainment leading into Sunday.

“We are excited to provide the perfect spot for a night of world-class boxing,” said Jack Murphy of Meridian. “We built Meridian to deliver a unique, one-of-a-kind venue to host events that stand out above the rest and are deserving of first-class hospitality and VIP experience for corporations and the general public alike. We look forward to hosting DAZN, Matchroom Boxing USA, and boxing fans worldwide.”

“January 30 in Miami just became a whole lot bigger,” said Eddie Hearn, President, Matchroom Boxing USA. “After the huge success of KSI vs. Logan Paul 2 which broke broadcast numbers Worldwide and also got nominated as Ring Magazine ‘Event of the Year,’ I’m delighted to add Jake Paul vs. Gib to our World Championship tripleheader on Super Bowl weekend in Miami, live on DAZN. Ever since the last event, people have been sliding into my DMs from all around the World to make this fight so hopefully now I will get some rest at Christmas! Same rules apply, 10-ounce gloves, no headguards and both going through the full professional protocol. It’s USA vs. UK one again! Los Angeles was wild, I have a feeling Miami will be next level.”

“Jake Paul vs. Gib will add a hell of a lot of noise to our Jan. 30 event in Miami,” Joseph Markowski, DAZN EVP, North America. “These men are not just celebrities of the internet; they are brilliant content creators with a proven ability to engage audiences largely ignored by traditional media.”

Jake Paul was pushing for a fight on the Logan Paul-KSI card in LA, but I beleive Hearn and co. didn't want two Youtube novice fights on the card.. Or maybe he couldn't get a license. I don't know.

This seems the new normal for Hearn/DAZN, to rack up maybe even one off months $19.99. This is business, and if it means money, then they will keep doing this.

They have both turned pro for this fight.

Press Release - Jake Paul: This is Not a One-Off, I Want To Keep Fighting

Jake Paul has vowed to keep boxing as he prepares to make his professional debut against fellow YouTube star AnEsonGib at the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami on Thursday January 30, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Paul is following his older brother Logan in featuring on a stacked World championship card after Logan rematched with Gib’s fellow Brit KSI in Los Angeles in November in their pro debuts, and now the 23 year old follows suit in Miami.

After a fiery press conference in Los Angeles, Paul and Gib are in the process of completing their training camps in Big Bear, California and Las Vegas respectively, and Paul says he has fallen in love with the sport and wants to prove he is taking it seriously by not just beating Gib, but using victory to launch a boxing career.

“I see how big this is becoming,” said Paul. “It’s just the start of what we’re going to see and that’s why I am so excited by it, I want to be the pioneer of this space.

“This is not a one-off stunt for me. I want to keep fighting and I have a list of targets of people that keep talking shit, Antonio Brown, Dillon Danis, other YouTubers – the potential for this is massive and I know that I will be the best ‘influencer-boxer’. I’ve fallen in love with boxing, I was watching my sparring back and just thinking ‘I love fighting’. It takes me back to why roots of being competitive playing football and wrestling.

“This is new, it is an untapped vertical for me. I look at myself as an innovator and a pioneer. I came into YouTube at a time when a lot of change needed to happen, and I was that change along with my brother. We went so big and viral and became the biggest.

“Boxing is making a huge comeback and there’s a huge lane for ‘celebrities’ or whatever you want to call us to make huge noise. It’s a business. If we can see the most tickets, we’re going to make the most money and draw the most fans, and no-one can really hate on that. That’s why I want to be the best and most technically skilled ‘influencer-boxer’.”

Paul and Gib clash on a huge night of action in Super Bowl week with WBO World Middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (28-0 17 KOs) defending his crown against Irish challenger Luke Keeler (17-2-1 5 KOs), Tevin Farmer (30-4-1, 6 KOs) defending his IBF World Super Featherweight title against JoJo Diaz (30-1, 15 KOs), and unified World Super Bantamweight champion Daniel Roman (27-2-1, 10 KOs) defending his titles against Murodjon Akhmadaliev (7-0, 6 KOs).

Sugar Shane Mosley: ‘Jake Paul is a YouTuber, but he’s training like a real fighter’

Former three-weight world titleholder Shane Mosley retired as a professional boxer in August 2017, 15 months after dropping a decision to David Avanesyan.

Unlike many of his peers, Mosley had no issues with moving into civilian life.

“It wasn’t tough for me because I trained people,” Mosley told The Ring from his training base in Big Bear, California. “I was training my son, I had different fighters. I got the chance to live boxing through them.

“I have Ivan Redkach and right now I’m training Jake Paul for his fight against AnEsonGib in Miami on [January] 30th. It’s fun to watch these guys work hard in training and do the best they can do.”

A few years ago, Mosley met Jake Paul through his children, who were keen followers of the YouTube star.

“I was like ‘Who the hell is Jake Paul?’,” revealed Mosley. “They wanted to go by his house in Hollywood. We went up to the door, there were a lot of people at his house, and they said, ‘Sugar Shane wants meet Jake.’ He was a boxing fan, so the kids came in and met him and we’ve been friends ever since.

“When he said he wanted to box and do some boxing stuff, I said, ‘Listen that’s what I do, I can show you everything!’ For the last fight he had a different trainer, but for this fight he asked me and I said, ‘No problem!’ It wasn’t a business decision.”

This Saturday, the ex-champion will be in Paul’s corner in his latest celebrity boxing match against Gib.

“Paul has been training really hard,” Mosley said. “He surprised me because he’s a YouTuber, but he’s actually training like a real fighter. He worked with me one time and I could see he had good athletic ability. He was a football player, basketball player, he did wrestling – he’s an athlete.

“The first time he came up to Big Bear and we did a run and I could see he was pretty strong. He really wants to box. It’s like a kid who came off the street and said, ‘I want to be a fighter.’ He has that type of mentality to me.

“It’s not like he’s a celebrity or YouTuber, he’s a regular guy who wants to be a world champion. Like Deontay Wilder, he started when he was 19, 20 and now he’s world champion. He has that type of thing for fighting.”

While many people are critical of celebrity matchups, Mosley is only too happy to help his friend live out an ambition.

“I think with Jake, he’s doing all he can to be a real fighter,” said the 2020 Hall of Fame Inductee. “I’m not saying he’ll be a world champion, but he has that type of ambition, to overcome and be the best at whatever he does. I like that, I think it’s remarkable. He’s boxing for real, he really wants to do this and make an impression on the sport.”

I do find it interesting that Boxing has apparently become the go to way to capitalize off of YouTube beefs. I'm for it personally. If you can get people interested in a fight for whatever reason. I mean that's the name of the game as a promoter.

I personally don't care who wins, but if people wanna see it, and will pay money for it. Hey go for it.

A real fighter could certainly take the opportunity to stand out on the undercard with an exceptional performance you'd think.

Jake Paul: Judges Favor Fighters Who Make Boxing Millions

Jake Paul made headlines immediately after his brother Logan lost a close decision to KSI last year in Los Angeles. Immediately after the fight, Jake told the assembled media in the press room that boxing is rigged and people get paid under the table.

When asked under cooler circumstances if he wanted to back off the statement — considering he’d be fighting in a pro bout himself this week — Paul offered the following to BS.com.

“I said boxing is rigged because of a lot of other reasons,” said Paul. “If there is a huge fight on the line, and it can sway how much millions of dollars are made in the sport, and if it goes to the judges, the judges are going to be in favor of the guy who’s making the sport millions and millions of dollars. That’s just how it is … I’m the A-side, contractually. I’ll always be the A-side.”

Paul will be making his pro boxing debut Thursday in Miami when he fights fellow content creator AnEsonGib. The Matchroom Boxing promoted fight will serve as the co-main event to the Demetrius Andrade versus Luke Keeler fight on DAZN.

“This fight is about showing the world whatever you throw at me, whatever you want to say about me, push me down with or label me as, I’m going to overcome and be better than that,” said Paul. “This isn’t a one-off stunt. I’m in love with the sport of boxing. I caught the boxing bug. I want to keep on fighting. I have a target list of people I want to fight, and I’m going to knock them out one by one.”

Paul has been training with Hall of Fame fighter turned coach “Sugar” Shane Mosley in Big Bear, Calif. in preparation for the fight.

“Shane Mosley is teaching me how to be a f------ champion. He’s like Yoda, and he’s showing me the f------ way,” said Paul. “[The hardest part about being a boxer] is not being able to party … There are no clubs in Big Bear. Coming from a lifestyle where, like, partying is such a thing, being a YouTuber, being an actor, being in the Hollywood nightlife scene, celebrities everywhere … the hardest part is putting the fun aside. I have access to a lot of fun.”

Paul described his fighting style as come forward, aggressive and throwing plenty of hard punches. He asked that fans give the recent trend of YouTubers fighting in pro boxing matches a second look.

“Give it a chance,” he said. “We’re putting in the work. We respect the sport of boxing. We love the sport. I’m a boxing fan. I understand why people would be skeptical. I would be too. I would want to protect the sport. It’s an honor to be on the card with world champions. I’m so grateful.”

Paul’s fight will be taking place on Super Bowl weekend. Should he pull off the victory, he’s already envisioning the celebration.

“I’ve been a huge football fan my whole life,” said Paul. “I’m going to get that win on Super Bowl weekend and then go streak down the field.”

Jake Paul KOs AnEsonGib in professional debut, eyes KSI bout

In a battle of YouTube personalities, Jake Paul made a successful professional debut with a first-round knockout of AnEsonGib in a co-main event of a DAZN card at the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami.

AnEsonGib was aggressive early in the bout, but he found himself unable to handle the superior power of Paul and was on the canvas a couple of times before the fight was waved off at 2:18 of the round.

As the bell sounded, it was actually the shorter AnEsonGib who came out and was the aggressor, but as soon as he started to get hit by Paul, he was unable to stay on his feet. First it was a sweeping right hand that had him on the floor. Later on, as he rushed in, Paul struck AnEsonGib with a left hook while his back was on the ropes, that caused the second knockdown. Finally, after another right cross staggered AnEsonGib, referee Chris Young waved off the fight.

"That was lit," said a jubilant Paul, who fought as a cruiserweight.

"I caught the boxing bug, I put the work in, and I'm in love with the sport," Paul added. "My power, my speed won in the first round."

For this contest, which was an officially sanctioned professional prizefight, Paul trained in California in the mountains of Big Bear with Shane Mosley, who was just recently elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

"Y'all said this was my best competitor. He's got energy, he's got stamina, he's 'the Beast from the Middle East' -- and I silenced him in one round," said Paul.

Paul plans to continue boxing and is eyeing a fight against KSI, another YouTube personality of note, who scored a six-round decision over Paul's brother, Logan, in a high-profile event in Los Angeles back in November.

"KSI's going to get clocked next," promised the 23-year-old Paul, who then went face-to-face with the family nemesis and began to jaw at him.

"You had to beat my bro by a bad call," he said to KSI, before the pair had to be separated.
