WRIGHT SLIGHT FAVOURITE OVER TAYLOR???!!
What the frig is going on here? Oddschecker has nearly all bookies putting Wright as slight favourite in this one...
Am I missing something?

Agreed. If Taylor brings his A game, he can finish this one by mid round KO. Wright was getting teared up by the lightly hitting Soliman, did you see Winky's face after fight?
Once Taylor gets past Winky's jab and lands a few uppercuts Winky will go into a shell. I just hope Taylor don't stay at range all night throwing the odd right cross.
Taylor by UD.

If it is ultra effective, what about the Vargas and Simon results?liamlion wrote:Winky Wright will absolutely school Taylor. Wright has the most accurate, unrelenting and demoralising jab in boxing in addition to a super-tight defence. I cant see Taylor dealing with Wright. Ronald Wright has a pretty unique, and ultra-effective, fighting style.
Most of Winky's career has been against B grade opposition, his best win at Middleweight is against Soliman, Tito wasn't the same fighter who looked invincible before Nard chewed him up.

The judges thought Winky lost to Vargas, and that's what counts. I can well see the same happening against Taylor, Taylor will pick up points for shots landing on gloves, arms, and shoulders, and Wright not doing enough consistent work of his own to convince them otherwise.
Taylor hits harder than Simon and is a naturall bigger man by some way.

When trying to predict the outcome of an upcoming fight, how can "what counts" be the opinion of 3 judges and not the opinion of most other observers? Come on James get with it 8) .
Personally I don't see the whole size/weight issue as being a factor in the fight. Winky looked a tower of strength against Trinidad, immovable. It's easy to point towards Tito being a shot fighter but that's not what everyone was saying a few months previously. Wright would have given him nightmares every time in that form. Taylor might present different problems but the same can certainly be said in reverse.

Because dumbo, are predicting the result of the fight, not highly subjective opinions of the paying public, what are you predicting, what the public will think of the result?
When predicting a fight outcome, you should be taking into account what judges favour and not what armchair pundits, most of whom haven't danny about how to score a fight, and that is a fact.
When asked about Hopkins Taylor II, I said I thought Taylor would win a fight than many thought Hopkins deserved to win, and hey presto, I was right. I knew the judges would favour Taylors workrate, even if he missed, and that Bernard would not be prepared to go all out for the KO. Now you can argue all you like that Hopkins deserved the decision, but truth is, he didn't put on the sort of performance that was equivocal enough to get the scorecards in his favour, despite knowing that they favoured Taylor last time out.
I think there may be a lot of close rounds in this coming fight, Winky may land more clean shots over the 1st half, but not get credit for it, whilst Taylor throws twice the amount of shots, lands only a quarter, and gets credited for a lot more, and then has a big round or two in the last 3rd of the fight which give him the two equivocal rounds he needs to put it in the bag.

I go for Winky UD shutout. Taylor hasnt done anything to tell me he's going to win this fight. both the Bhop wins are up for debate, and were won on work rate alone.
Taylors workrate is poor, which says a lot about Bhops performances in those two snore fests, and a poor workrate against Winky is asking for trouble.

??? I'm predicting who will actually demonstrate superiority in the boxing ring over the 12 rounds. I'm not predicting what the 3 judges will come up with. That is anyones guess. When did judges suddenly become so reliable? And even armchair Joe can tell when a fighter has been shafted.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Because dumbo, are predicting the result of the fight, not highly subjective opinions of the paying public, what are you predicting, what the public will think of the result?

Did people really think Hopkins desevered the nod over Taylor in the rematch? I don't remember it that way. For the record I predicted a Hopkins win beforehand but Taylor won fair and square in my eyes.

It's not that often though that someone gets completely shafted, the bouts which have contentious results tend to be where not many shots are landed by either man, and the margins in individual rounds are very small.
Fact is, judges tend to go for Taylor's style, he comes forward (generally), is aggressive, throws a lot of flurries, and it is not always easy to tell whether his shots are landing or not from ringside. Winky by contrast does a lot of things he may well not get credit for.

It's because of the tight defence and sharp-shooting of Winky that I find his fights relatively easy to score. Certainly in his higher profile fights when he shows his best form. Only when some maniac like Harry Simon swarms all over him does it become more difficult.
What Taylor will do remains to be seen, but I can't find a reason to give him the edge. Winky would have beaten Hopkins clearly IMO.

Watch the fight! That decision was a robbery, Vargas was properly beat-up in that fight, and his face showed it at the end. Wright might have lost the decision but I can assure you he was not second best that night.jamesmcdonnell wrote:If it is ultra effective, what about the Vargas...liamlion wrote:Winky Wright will absolutely school Taylor. That decision was more about the huge influence that big TV stations and Promoters in America (with a vested interest in one of the fighters only) have over the judges, scoring the fight (De la Hoya v Felix Sturm is another example).
What as oppossed to the well-proven Taylor?? Whose most notable victories have been two controversial/non too convincing decisions against Hopkins. Jesus, if anyone has fought 'B grade' fighters, surely its Taylor - look at his record, not too many big names on it.jamesmcdonnell wrote: Most of Winky's career has been against B grade opposition, his best win at Middleweight is against Soliman, Tito wasn't the same fighter who looked invincible before Nard chewed him up.
