Oleksandr Usyk injury delays Derek Chisora Pay-Per-View fight again

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Oleksandr Usyk injury delays Derek Chisora Pay-Per-View fight again"

Oleksandr Usyk and Derek Chisora are to battle it out in a heavyweight Pay-Per-View showdown on UK soil a couple of months later than expected.

World Boxing News had originally learned Usyk and Chisora were going to collide on March 28th, live on Sky Sports Box Office. This has now been pushed back until at least May.

This is due to an elbow injury suffered by the former undisputed cruiserweight king. April has now been ruled out.

Thoughts? :-?

Is Oleksandr Usyk injury prone and today’s equivalent of David Haye?

• March 30th, 2016 - Foot injury
• April 16th, 2018 - Elbow injury
• May 7th, 2019 - Bicep injury
• February 10th, 2020 - Elbow injury

Every single one of these injuries resulted in scheduled bouts being cancelled or postponed.

By the time Usyk recovers from his most recent injury setback, more than 18 months would have transpired since his final cruiserweight contest, having since competed in only one solitary heavyweight bout since that date (against an undersized journeyman). :o

A good comparison to Haye.
For those saying Usyk is a sure bet on being the next world champion may be disappointed. I dont know if his body would hold up to the division

I would've wondered whether he was actually using the delays to inject some PEDs in his ass or something, but they are happening too often. Not a good sign obviously.

Cynicism at its fines!

But, yeah their are ways to get the effects and also get it out of your system. Otherwise PEDs would be long gone.

I always said and will always say ... Usyk is heavily hyped unproven fighter by UK fans for known reason

He is small heavyweight. Holyfiled that fought tyson second time weighted 217 lbs and was ripped to the bone on skinny leg.

His upper body was two times larger than Usyk .. holyfiled was made out of bricks

Interesting that both top CWs who moved up are having repeated injury issues.

I'm wondering if he's close to being done. Seems brittle.

Usyk does appear to be the second coming of Haye.

This seemingly can happen with CWs who step up to HW & start tangling with much heavier men.

Some of them are OK, like Holyfield, but when he stepped up, he teamed up with Lee Haney & grew his body almost scientifically, thus enabling him to successfully adapt to competing against heavier guys.

Bummer. Usyk/Chisora is an exciting fight. I hope the continuous injuries don’t effect Usyk too bad

Hopefully it's just a case of him being extra cautious, and keeping a minor injury from getting worse rather than another major thing that needs surgery.

Maybe it stops AJ from being stripped of one of his belts as a fight with Usyk can't happen until after Pulev anyway? IDK.

Parker should cancel his upcoming fight and step in with Chisora as originally planned.

Winner faces Usyk when ready

Possibly due to long term ped use.

He trains hard, maybe the best stamina in the sport considering size, and is a bit awkward. Not a great combo. Needs to dial it back a shade, train smarter etc.

That's bad. Another injury. Is Usyk that fragile? It'll be pity to lose such a talent. Hopefully Usyk recovers well and doesn't get injured again that soon.
