Re: Gary Russell Jr. vs. Tugstsogt Nyambayar - February 8, 2020
At least Russell Jr's out in January that gives him time to fight another once this year but I wont hold my breath, the only thing more laughable than his activity is the WBC's refusal to have a word, its ridiculous and it overshadows his ability in the ring these days, the Martinez fight last night was dreadful matchmaking and the fact it was stopped on a cut summed up the whole farce
Ive seen Nyambayar before and remember being impressed, think it might have been the Escandon win or the Marrero fight last time out, pretty sure it was Marrero actually but yeh I liked him, Russell Jr is levels above those guys though, super quick and super sharp, theres no doubting Russell Jr is a quality boxer and one of the fastest in the game but i'd love to see his title reign come to an end

Im backingTugger.
Partly because I'm sick of 'part time boxer' Russell and his tedious waste of prime, and secondly I want to shout "Come on Tugger!" At the telly.
I think Tugstsogt will take a lot of punches until he clips Russell Jr.
If he can hurt him, Tugger wins the fight, if not, it will be a difficult to watch beat down![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

Tugjob is solid but the talent gap should be large enough for even an unmotivated Russell to win. Though Russell does strike me as a guy who when he loses again will lose simply be being outwilled by a less talented guy

Why has Russell been so inactive? Badly promoted?
One fight per year isn't enough to keep a boxer fully focused on his career.

Great undercard scrap here - Velez is fighting for his career.
Re: Gary Russell Jr. vs. Tugstsogt Nyambayar - February 8, 2020
I always say close fights can go either way...since there is always 3 or 4 rounds where a case could be made for either fighter.
So, I certainly don’t think it was robbery....but I do believe the 115-112 Velez scorecard was the most accurate.

I don't really understand the last round. Arbo gets hit with a bunch of shots and is obviously shaky, he puts himself on the canvas while under fire, and that doesn't get ruled a kd? The ref seemed kinda dumb there, like he just took Arbo's word for it because Arby shook his head. I think that should've been another knockdown and therefore a draw

It seems Arbo was the A side. It was a dissapoining end to what was a valiant final round.

Ya, defo got helped out a bit there. Arbo showed flashes of talent but had that shaky look to him, also been ko'd before. I had him winning by 1 but defo felt that Velez shoulda got 2 kds in that last round and therefore a draw
Gary won easily enough but he was a bit of a Devon Alexander with the way he pulls his punches and ends up falling short with a lot of them--if there is anything that keeps him below the level of someone like Loma it is that. Tug was a bit perplexed by the speed, came into it more in the second half but comfortably beaten
Rigo and Solis landed about 4 or 5 punches around each, and even when Rigo hurt the guy he didn't follow up worth sh!te. Frustrating fighter to watch, by virtue of doing so little made it a lot closer than it shouldve been I felt

Russell is 31.
Any slip in speed and he is a sitting duck. He does noting to deter opponents, it's just that they can't catch him

Re: Gary Russell Jr. vs. Tugstsogt Nyambayar - February 8, 2020
I agreed with the 118-110 card but could still see it a couple rounds closer, I thought Russell Jr boxed vey well against a tough opponent, he was too quick and too sharp for Nyambayar, kept him at bay with the jab and straight left, some nice right hooks as well , as the rounds went on he started to let the combinations go, Nyambayar looked like he was finally starting to bridge the gap in the middle rounds, started to catch Russell Jr clean and maybe hurt him a couple times but Russell Jr stopped the rot and quickly regained control
Nyambayar can fight and always pressed but he couldn't close the distance quick enough to get on inside and get his own punches off, credit to Russell Jr he boxed very well, got his tactics bang on

118-110 does not mean fight was not close IMO. Russell was just little better in almost all rounds. Nyambayar need experience against elite guys. BTW this card was pretty poor, lot of small guys, boos from crowd. Definitely not a good way to promote sport of boxing. Still RUssell and Rigondeaux got 2 decent wins

118-110 was a little harsh to Tug but the decision was correct.
There are good fights for Russell at 126 (particularly Warrington) but I don't really see PBC making them happen. Best we can probably hope for is a move to 130 for a fight with LSC.

About the Rigo fight, it really made it obvious how ridiculous it was that he actually fought Lomachenko at 130. He is not even very big for 118 and could probably make 115.
If Donaire wasn't already headed to a shot at Oubaali I'd say it would be interesting to see if he could avenge the loss to Rigo at this point.

I'm sure Rigo would love that payday but Inoue has bigger fish to fry.3132DW wrote: ↑09 Feb 2020, 19:53Rigo been mentioning Inoue today.jujigatame wrote: ↑09 Feb 2020, 17:27 About the Rigo fight, it really made it obvious how ridiculous it was that he actually fought Lomachenko at 130. Rigo could've said no.
Re: Gary Russell Jr. vs. Tugstsogt Nyambayar - February 8, 2020
It was like Omar Narvaez, a brilliant fighter, accepting the fight versus the bigger and younger Donaire and then putting in a horrible showing that tarnished him.
Rigondeaux had no chance against Lomachenko. I was also very much against Marquez-Mayweather and Garcia-Spence. These guys had zero chance and I do hate the size mismatches.
It’s disappointing the industry wants to make these fights but the little guy who gets embarrassed has to take some of the responsibility. Even more if they quit (Rigondeaux) or hide in the ring (Narvaez).

Narvaez lost all his fights to far bigger guys, shame he gets remembered so much for those losses, I know his opposition wasn't great but he was really a nice fighter to watch, really no standout physical ability but all sorts of subtle little skills and movesAutobarn wrote: ↑10 Feb 2020, 18:29It was like Omar Narvaez, a brilliant fighter, accepting the fight versus the bigger and younger Donaire and then putting in a horrible showing that tarnished him.

Then, they could've simply said, "no, I'm too small"Autobarn wrote: ↑10 Feb 2020, 18:29It was like Omar Narvaez, a brilliant fighter, accepting the fight versus the bigger and younger Donaire and then putting in a horrible showing that tarnished him.
