Queensberry Promotions confirms Josh Warrington split, Warrington joins Matchroom

Post by Glass Joe »

Didn't see that coming (always to do with money)
allegedly AND Queensberry Promotions can announce that the company has parted ways with IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington at the conclusion of his promotional agreement.

The now 30-0 man from Leeds joined forces with Queensberry in 2017 and was quickly steered into mandatory position for the world title showdown with Lee Selby that he long craved. This was delivered on a memorable night at Elland Road in May 2018 and Josh subsequently defended in a huge Box Office event against Carl Frampton in the December at Manchester Arena.

Home advantage for a mandatory defence against fellow Yorkshireman Kid Galahad was secured in June 2019, with his last fight being a voluntary defence against Sofiane Takoucht, which resulted in an emphatic second round victory.

“I am happy to say that we delivered for Josh on every level and helped him realise his goals in the sport,” said promoter Warren. “We all wish Josh every success for the future and will always remember the great nights we enjoyed in Leeds.”

Shocking!

Considering he left Matchroom cuz they had differences.

FW has lost many now to Matchroom.

Who has FW got left? Domestic boxers only

3 and a half years ago. Most people here would go back to their old job if they offered you 5 times more than what you currently earn. :salut: :salut: :salut: :salut:

If I remember rightly, Josh only left matchroom due to a bigger offer from Queensbury and there was no fall out. Eddie wouldn't match Franks offer and wished him luck. Frank's done a good job with Warrington altho is struggling to get him a unification bout and us exposure. It seems like Josh is going where the best deal is each time and not signing too big a deal. Shrewd and no doubt good advice from Steve Wood. This is exactly why I thought Dubois signing for 5 years is absolutely crazy,

That headline stood out in a big way. 5 years!? Premiership footballers yes, boxers no.

Frank has probably seen Liam Smith and Billy Joe Saunders walk and thought ahead.

Who manages Dubois? He's insane to sign for that long.

Karma is real. Cant stand fish eyes. Scum bag of the highest order. Although warrington better hope eddie doesnt bang him in with galahad cause cant see him making it threw that. Can see JW moving up in weight now though and letting the kid fight for vacant belt.

tbh
if I were a boxer I would look more favourably at matchroom than warren .

They just have more going on all over vs warrens sparse offerings in primarily little venues .

and warrens a slimy toad for sure .
at least with hearn he doesnt hide the fact he is a billy bullshitter .

It’s risky, Hearn seems to be signing lots of fighters but getting them no fights, look at the Smith Saunders stuff, “we’ve had minor discussions with Canelo” yeah right you’ve sent an email an heard nowt back.

You can’t see the guy who sells 20,000 tickets getting the nod, really?

He beat Galahad fair and square in a close one. But if Galahad actually engages, I'd fancy josh to do him far easier. Also, the ref was EXTREMELY lenient with Barry's forearm/elbow work (a recurrent trait in his game I've noticed)

As opposed to FW not even knowing Canelo’s email and leaving BJS to have one fight every 15-18 months at the Paisley Leisure centre?

Suppose being on the undercard of two YouTubers debuts is a step up eh :maybe: plus I doubt he’s lost his email since he got Smith a fight with him.

I’m sure $750,000 dollars cushioned the blow.

It’s quite clear his next fight is gonna be against Callum Smith as Canelo is dragging his heels announcing this Japanese opponent. If I were Hearn I’d be looking to get Saunders off my books sharpish anyway. I never thought anyone was looking at Billy Joe and thinking ‘jeez I wish I had him.’ He acts like a helmet most of the time, doesn’t sell any tickets but his talent will likely demand bigger purses than what he generates. I’d imagine the ideal situation would be lose to Callum Smith then lose to Andrade back down at middleweight.
