Glad you added the last sentence as we all know who won on the night .
I had to didnt I .... otherwise would get heckled as a fan boy !
I like smith but have said in the past he needs bigger tests to prove if he is or isnt the real deal
I like him too , seems like a decent lad , but I still think he lost on the night . :TU:

I thought that might be the case as Canelo was bigging him up
Wonder what weight it will be made at , don't know if Saunders is a bonafide super middle .
Should be interesting if it comes off .

Would fancy BJS more at 160 than 168 - What you need is the BJS who boxed v Lemeiux to make it interesting.

I’m sure DAZN have input via Golden Boy - they will want a showcase fight for Cinco....BJS has big mouth and can talk it up for Press Conf as well. Can’t see them wanting a Lemeiux/Murata type.

Yes , I think he'd give Canelo a hard time if he can replicate that form .
Obviously Lemeiux ain't no Canelo tho .

Yeah comes from Jamie Conlan interview - only thing to be agreed is BJS minimum payment was what was coming from America.

Saunders is a decent opponent. Good that someone under 35 is on the shortlist. You can see the reasoning, gun for a super middle title versus a guy who’s more of a middleweight.

Still think the best you’ll see of Canelo is vs an aggressive super middleweight. Less movement at 168 (Canelo’s legs are his weak point) and I think at that weight he’ll be comfortable and effective in exchanges of power punches.

If they’re holding out for more than Fielding got, it’s understandable especially given that Smith did Fielding very early.

Obviously Canelo not only holds all the cards but would be a big favourite over either... Yet what frustrates me is he’s like a modern day Sugar Ray Leonard, but his performances are closer to the SRL who came out of retirement after 3 1/2 years, with debatable decisions, fights marred by handicapping... and Canelo is in his prime. In his prime yet doesn’t throw significantly more punches than guys older than him.

It says a lot about modern audiences that Canelo can be a superstar, when mostly he doesn’t fight like one. Feeling in boxing is obviously fighters want the career high payday to fight him, and don’t want to be raped in negotiations.
Canelo is usually a brilliant watch, he hurts people and is nice and aggressive most of the time. That’s a huge part of his popularity I think.

Although you’re not wrong about negotiations and promoters
He’s very correct and I can see why a hardcore fight fan would like his balance and punch delivery.

He was sizzling versus Ryan Rhodes, Matthew Hatton and Rocky Fiedling. Did great work vs Golovkin 2 but many feel he didn’t win (I’m ok with the result). I don’t enjoy the frustrating fights, Jacobs, Lara (marred by weight stipulation) and Trout - although these are not the easiest guys to fight.

I do think he will look awesome if he settles into the right weight, which i believe is 168. His body shots I feel will be murderous even versus the top fighters.

Was very one paced at 175 vs Kovalev but I give him credit for getting the result & the big finish.

Oh, so you like his style in the ring just not outside? That’s fine by me

It’s worth noting that Lara Jacobs and Trout were the ones making those fights so frustrating.

My initial thoughts on Canelo vs BJS? Canelo's firepower will be to much for Billy. Billy may box well during the early rounds, but my gut is telling me Billy caves in when Canelo starts connecting. I'm doubtful it goes past 6 rounds.

If/when it gets announced i will evaluate the fight in more depth, and maybe completely change my opinion :D

Remember Billy Joe going life and death with Eubank Jr?

Yeah I do too.

It's all very well concentrating on his best performance Vs Lemieux, but he's had some absolute stinkers in the main.

Khan showed the way to beat Canelo but of course this is a 12 not a 4 round fight.

And remember how Saunders sometimes fades down the stretch

Definitely I can see Saunders boxing out of his skin for 6 rounds and then fading enough for Canelo to land his admittedly impressive punch repertoire. With Canelo having to dish out some hurt to win beyond doubt.

A lot of people compare Canelo to the 160-pound Toney (hard opponents, fiercely contested and bitterly disputed afterward). Could this be his “Toney-Nunn”?

You could already say he kind of had his Toney v Reggie Johnson, vs, say, Lara. All counter puncher clash of styles where the more mobile fighter, in addition to being a southpaw, won’t engage. With the aggressor having fast enough hands and enough willing to earn the benefit of the doubt.

Tbf I'm not sure his fitness and training discipline was as good back then, if he got a fight with Canelo I think he would whip himself into fantastic shape.

Cash out fight for Billy. One great performance vs Lemieux who is flat footed vs countless flat and struggling performances vs less then stellar opposition.

But guess you never know. There is a small chance it could be a Buster Douglas moment.

Canelo's tendency to opportunistically move up and down between weight classes may be his downfall one day. He's such a star, and has so much choice, that he might one day make the wrong choice. That, say, coming down in weight might add to his worst tendencies, the one-pace, the flat feed and the "woodenness" of his movements - enough to really blow up in his face.

His main weakness is his knees and the best way to beat him is for a puncher to land a perfect right whose impact is felt all the way into his boots. He can be hurt but as we've seen it takes a Golovkin to do so and "GGG" couldn't even come close to finishing him.
