US Coverage of Wilder Fury 2

Post by Cyclops »

I NEVER buy PPV's but I bought this one, so obviously I got the boring old UK commentary which we barely listened to because the fight was so fun. Anyway I watched the fight back today and oh my God it was unwatchable. I forgot just how bad a commentator Lennox Lewis is. The trilogy narrative is being hammered so hard it's painful. Anybody who watches that fight sees a one sided beatdown where Wilder got a couple of shots off here and there but lost every round. Fury beat the living sh*t out of him and drank his blood. The commentary team didn't even react to hard shots landing from the first round, afterwards it was like a joke with Shawn Porter saying he gave Wilder the 2nd and the team going on about how the third fight had to happen. It made Sky commentary look good.

I was reading through some comments on Youtube and there was this mention of Wilder's ring walk being racist. I was like, eh? I thought he looked like something out of Power Rangers and he got rapped in which immediately irritated me, so we just laughed at it. Anyway, I looked it up and it's Black History Month (which nobody gives a f*ck about in the UK apart from maybe some white girl who runs the student bar in an art college) and his whole ring walk was some black power thing. Americans are OBSESSED with race. It's terrible. Why make it part of a boxing match? We're supposed to be moving forward, not back. Who OK'd that for a sporting event? He tried to make the last one about race, Fury didn't take the bait. Then they just straight up let him make this one about race and he got his c*nt kicked in. Great. Well done, mate. You really helped race relations there. Good move.

I tried watching the post fight press conference and that was all the same team rambling about how the rematch had to happen and when Gareth A Davies piped up about unification with AJ they immediately cut back to the studio before the humble one's name could be mentioned. Also, considering the BHM angle, them not having a chair for Sugar Hill considering he was the only black bloke there (Wilder had gone to have his jaw sewn back on) was pretty f*cking disrespectful.

I can't stand Wilder. He can't string a sentence together and wasn't there some footage of him waving a golden gun about or something? Its immensely satisfying to see him smashed. I really don't feel sorry for him at all.

Anyway, anybody seen any of this shite?

Yeah, Americas obsession with skin colour baffles me. No media in the UK mentioned it, but the yanks are all over that nonsense

I watched the American version all they kept doing was saying wilder had a bust eardrum and that was why he was getting beat .
The black power ringwalk was cringe worthy at the least , I'd call it pretty offensive myself

I missed his ring walk. What was it all about? That monotoned bird that was on the American commentary was a pain in the balls...

I seen a clip of Wilder fans leaving the arena and 1 guy was going mental blaming his loss on racism  twat

As for Lewis, he's not my favourite but he's still nowhere near as bad as Foreman

Seems like Wilder's team are in meltdown, Jay Deas is unhappy Breland threw the towel in, it was the correct call IMO but surely only the head trainer can make that call

I watched a stream with US commentary and from the first knockdown onwards they were just yakking on about Wilders equilibrium, every other word was equilibrium, it's like they'd discovered a new word and wanted to use it as much as possible to impress.

Yes the yanks are obsessed with race and sadly it's something which is becoming more common in the UK.

All I'll say is, considering the outcome, it was an incredibly irresponsible thing to do and leave it at that.

We've always had our problems but we're more integrated no matter what anyone says. I was chatting to a bunch of Somalis about it in the build up and they were Fury all the way. Race wasn't a factor at all.

I follow him on Twitter and he constantly spouts sh!t on there as well - comes out with a load of weird pseudo-motivational stuff which basically only serves to point out what a great career he had

Think its par for the course to cry racism over there for a lot of people, makes no sense, 3 American judges, an african American ref stops it after an African America threw the towel in

There was a rapper in front of wilder I couldn't make out a lot of it but it was basically a black power rap I honestly think if it was done here and the the word black was changed to white he'd of been arrested.

Exactly. He said something even more dumb than that later on. I can't remember what it was but it was bad. Like, just nonsense.

I used to enjoy the commentary of Al Bernstein when he came to channel five for a bit- not many great commentators about now as far as I see

It was as black power thing? I thought he came as a Pokemon or something. :-?

He wore something very similar against Ortiz in the second fight but it was white or cream.

What is it supposed to be exactly?

I did see a clip of Tyson being interviewed In the week of the fight and one for the interviewers asked him about the race aspect and Tyson just batted it away, I was a little surprised the host tried to do something like that.
