In the summer of 1927, a committee led by former New Jersey state legislator William H. Iszard organized a southern New Jersey professional boxing tournament. The focus of the tournament seemed to be on boxers with limited professional experience. The concept was approved by state Boxing Commissioner Newton A. K. Bugbee, and 68 boxers registered to participate in the tournament. The first three bouts of the tournament were held at Camden, in the Public Service Ball Park at 12th and Federal Streets, on August 5, 1927. These August 5 contests were the first bouts in New Jersey, since the legalization of professional boxing in the state, to use judges to decide the outcome if a bout went the distance. Attendance was 2000, "many of whom were women", according to the Evening Courier.
Here are the complete results of that show:
Mickey Blair, 132 1/2, Camden W8 (split) Eddie Chaney, 137 1/2, Camden
(Judges for this bout: Andrew McMahon: 5-1-2 Blair; Jeff Smith: 5-0-3 Blair; George Helker: 3-1-4 Chaney). This was the first New Jersey professional bout with a decision rendered by judges following the legalization of boxing in the state.

Mickey Chubby, 126 1/2, Florence, NJ KO 1 (1:32) Buck O'Brien, 125 1/2, Camden
In addition to the three tournament bouts, there were two "exhibition" (meaning regular) bouts on the card:
