Who is Prince Naseem?
Sorry couldn't help it.

He is in prison now and I think he retire because he didn't want no part of Barrera again. :TU:

Naseem Hamed was beaten throughly by Marco Antonio Barrera. He had one fight after that but it wasn't very impressive. He then retired and spoke about many come backs but his confidence seemed to be shot and he let his body go. He became ridiculously fat for a former feather weight. About a month ago he was sent to jail for dangerous driving.

He didn't officially retire. Just faded away.

After the Barrera loss, he fought once more winning a wide but boring decision against Manuel Calvo. Got booed out of the ring by the crowd and faded away from the boxing scene.

Ate. Got Fat.

Popped up ringside at a few recent-ish Sports Network shows to announce his comeback.

Jailed for nearly killing someone in a car.

Rumours he is training in prison to launch a comeback when out.

Outrage he could be out soon on tagging system.

Well, I dont know how you guys do it over there, but jail could be the perfect place for him to lose some weight. I think he was overrated, but I would love to see another skilled fighter back in the ring. maybe at 135 or 140. There are some big fights waiting.

1) Loss of confidence in his (overhyped) ability, of course you have the one-sided trounching by Barrera, but he was sliding for a few years before that, and the gradual increase in quality of opponent only served to highlight his flaws, capped by that shameful display in May '02 when he was pushed 12 rounds by some Euroscrub. I think he realised that if he continued, he'd have been KO'ed sooner rather than later (and I think both Morales or Pac could've been the guy to do it)

2) Religion - he seemed to get more strict about it as he got older, and in the koran you are forbidden from marking the face of your enemies;

3) Money - he had 20 mil or so, who wants to get out of silk sheets at 4 in the morning with a gorgeous blonde to go running in the mountains?

I'm sure he had other, more intimate reasons, but those are what come to mind.

Simple really. Hamed relied on a reflex style of defence instinctively. Even in the fights that he boxed somewhat orthodoxly he reverted to reflex defence under pressure. As he got older with his eating habits and weight problems his reflexes slowed and he got hit more. The rest regarding wealth and lifestyle has been documented in the other posts, so all in all why bother in his shoes?

i think you are right on target with #1... :TU: but #2 only begs the question....doesnt the koran forbid fleeing the scene of an injurious accident where your negligence caused great harm to someone else?!?

Wouldnt the Koran want him sleeping with beautiful Muslim women? I am not saying there probably arent a few blonde muslims, but they probably dont constitute a large portion of the population..... maybe I am off base.

looks like we are not too far off on our takes again...interesting that the 2 most recent would regard hamed...this one (see my take 5 minutes before yours on this topic)...and the other one (you beat me by a few minutes on that one) about hamed fighting ibeabuchi in jailhouse HW (you had him getting help from fellow jailbird spadafora, while i had him weighing in at HW & taking on ike by himself!!)

i think it must be due to the fact that "the prince" has turned into something of a sad joke!!

Probably nobody has had longer rumors of comebacks than Prince Hamed. I will say he was at one time a true force in boxing, and possibly one of the greatest European fighters ever.

I think it would be a mistake of him to make a comeback now, as the Featherweight division is so deeply rich in talented fighters and he has bee inactive and out of condition for such a long time, it would prove fruitless and ignorant, only chance he would possibly have is fighting at a heavier weight class---rather than fight at Featherweight, where it would be proven he would no longer have the speed and quickness needed for the division.

Not sure what your question is; in similar fashion to Christianity, Hamed's religion forbids married men from sleeping with anyone but their wives, but there is nothing in it to forbid you marrying a blonde moslem, I know a few who married non-moslems, they 'must' convert though.

There are a few white moslems running around, usually through marriage, sometimes by voluntary conversion. They actually have their own support groups and whatnot. The vast majority of moslems are still of non-european ancestry, though.

I'm simply saying that if I had Eleasha Hamed in bed with me, I probably wouldn't have the energy left to go running at 4am...

:)
