Kiernan was hit by an unintentional low blow and was unable to continue. Longo was disqualified for excessive holding. DeCruze was identified as a Filipino but his hometown was not reported. In an August 31, 1929, preview of this bout, DeCruze and Mason both reportedly weighed in at 144, according to the "Long Branch Daily Record". That paper's account of the bout in its September 3, 1929, edition said that DeCruze was a flyweight. The Boxrec database lists Mason as a featherweight.
