I really don't dislike finito, loved watching him fight. It's the message board overreacting and badge of honor for caring about straws that turned me against him. People measuring him against Morales, mab and jmm might as well go Tommy Morrison against holyfield.giacomino wrote: ↑01 Mar 2020, 00:59I like Finito more than you do but totally agree, Their resumes aren’t even close, although Yafai was a bum-fighting belt-holder and glad Chocolatito kicked his buttOnetimeonly wrote: ↑01 Mar 2020, 00:04 Gonzalez is greater than finito. Obviously his resume is better but the eye test is better too.

Vargas won a few of the early rounds and was ahead, a strong 5th from Garcia saw him back in it.
From there through to the last couple of rounds Garcia was in charge, Vargas seemed to lose his strength and the snap on his punches during the 2nd half of the fight just wasn't there.
I don't think Garcia took full advantage when he had it, he couldn't get his engine going enough to mount a sustained attack to force a stoppage, he got pedestrian.
Garcia has a good chin, his power is decent for his size but he's a smaller Welterweight isn't he, no questioning his heart, skill or will to win he has all that, just get's a bit harder against bigger younger 147's doesn't it.

Think thats why they are trying to get the pac fight. size advantage should be minimal and it will come down to style match up and game plan. Basicaly two guys that should be at 140 but dont wanna cut much weight. If mikey beats pac i would like t see him go back down to 140 though. clean that up and meet the young guns like haney, tank, ryan garcia, as they move to 140.

You could sell that, thing is the other fighters out there pose just as appealing contests.gregregegg wrote: ↑01 Mar 2020, 01:48Think thats why they are trying to get the pac fight. size advantage should be minimal and it will come down to style match up and game plan. You have to ask yourself after watching Mikey Garcia tonight, is a fight with Pacquiao near the top of your list.

Roman Gonzales was the story of the night. I’m interested to see him fight again...once again. Mickey Garcia, there’s some good match ups such as Josh Taylor, etc however at 147 he’s not exciting.

Has there been a better fighter at flyweight and below, than Gonzalez, in the last like 30 years?

I think Garcia would have a good chance to beat Pac at 147, (due to his size and age) but think it may be an uphill battle vs the other top guys at the weight. He would be better suited to fight at 140. He should have fought someone like Vargas first at the weight to test the waters, but props to him for having the courage to face Spence right off the bat.

I struggled to think of any, mind you I’m biased as Fock with Gonzalez. Like you say the eye test and the record test are both so good with him, it’s a rare delight to see such a talented guy fight enough quality to have proven it over and over again.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑01 Mar 2020, 08:32No, maybe never.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑01 Mar 2020, 07:25 Has there been a better fighter at flyweight and below, than Gonzalez, in the last like 30 years?![]()

I had Garcia winnign 117-111, a few close round where nothing much happened, Garcia not throwing much but landing the eye catching punches, Vargas throwing a lot more but nit landing clean, I thought Garcia was solid defensively and his judgement of distance is quality but he's never a Welterweight, he's pissing his prime years up at 147, he looks slow and soft , he still has that class and he was a clear winner here as far as scores were concerned but he's lost something as well, I thought Vargas started off much sharper and Garcia done precious little in the first 2 rounds, once he started letting that right hand go though he separated himself from Vargas, rocked him in the 5th right before decking Vargas in the same round, class KD
Garcia hurt Vargas a few times with the same shot throughout and it was that 1/2 which was enough to win the fight really, Vargas lost a bit of steam for a while after the knockdown but still gamely hung around and had a decent spell late on but Garcia's quality trumped his effort

He is an aggressive minded fighter with elite skills and good power, which basically make him great to watch. He has clinical combos and the best use of the uppercut in all boxing for several years, I thought he won the first sor fight

Wouldn't mind seeing Garcia against Taylor or Prograis at 140...
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jessie Vargas - February 29, 2020
A quite predictable outcome for this unnecessary fight. However, Garcia could be better. Probably he wasn't thinking of Vargas as of a big threat to him as well, so he wasn't fully prepared.

Garcia is a problem solver, Vargas came out fighting well and he solved it.

Thought it was a decent perrformance from Garcia, defensively astute and his power at this weight against Vargas carried a threat, as Vargas acknowledged after. I still think the Thurmans, Crawfords, etc would have his number at this weight so maybe Pac is the better option.
Would like to see him drop down to 140lbs and try and dominate that division.

What the heck is even doing Mikey still staying at 147. He edged it but looks clear how he is way out of possibilities, like Mosley at 154.
