Re: Stupidest Excuses
Can’t remember which snooker player it was but after getting beat by Stephen hendry at the crucible he blamed it on Naz staring at him in the crowd. The prince was a big Stephen hendry fan in the day!

Lennox Lewis gets far too much credit for his sportsmanship and dignified behaviour. He was as appalling as the next bad loser when it came to accepting defeat and giving his opponents credit.
I remember seeing an interview with Thomas Hearns and the interviewer was offering Tommy excuses for some of his defeats and he replied something along the lines of : as a champion you have to put injuries or problems to one side and concentrate on the task in front of you. What a legend !![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Agree about Hearns; he is the man and he never offered any excuses.THEBUTCH wrote: ↑27 Feb 2020, 09:59 QUOTE "" mickey1975 - Distracted by filming a movie so getting sparked by a fringe top ten guy? Lennox.....

The late great Manny Steward let him down in that regard; always coming up with lame excuses, ie, over training, legs massaged etc etc.

Re: Stupidest Excuses
The reality is Rahman landed an almighty right hander on Lewis' chops and that was that ! Lewis, of course, returned the favour next time out, but at least Lewis should have given Rahman the credit he deserved.

An excuse is something to cover up the real reason,McCall was so messed up at the time it probably was the truth

My brother spiked my drink!
Re: Stupidest Excuses
Tyson later said the night before he lost to Buster Douglas, he was up till the early hours knobbing Japanese girls like it was eating grapes. Apparantly he was partying with Bobby Brown, who also later verified Tyson had banged several of them, and that Tyson later told him his legs felt like jelly when he got in the ring for that fight.
Not so much of an excuse, more the reality of why he underperformed that night.

That was hilarious.
It's funny how these drug cheats can always hark back to a specific drink being allegedly spiked.
I think Ben Johnson came up with that one first three decades earlier.
They need a more original excuse.

Re: Stupidest Excuses
I don't believe for one second that Tyson's defeat was because he was up all night banging Japanese women.ALI wrote: ↑29 Feb 2020, 05:24 Tyson later said the night before he lost to Buster Douglas, he was up till the early hours knobbing Japanese girls like it was eating grapes. Did he only stay up late banging women for the Douglas fight?
I'm willing to bet that is not so.
Tyson lost because he failed to prepare properly.
The writing was on the wall before Douglas; a decline in his skillset post Rooney.
He was rich, arrogant, conceited and he was training his trainer, not the other way around.
The cornerwork for the Douglas fight was atrocious; a likely testimony to the fact that they appeared to have little or no idea.
Re: Stupidest Excuses
Staying up partying till the early hours could though. For sure not the best pre fight prep, and by all accounts, played its part in him underperforming that night.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑01 Mar 2020, 02:31ALI wrote: ↑29 Feb 2020, 05:24 Tyson later said the night before he lost to Buster Douglas, he was up till the early hours knobbing Japanese girls like it was eating grapes. Re: Stupidest Excuses
And to top it all off, Douglas performed out of his skin that night. Almost everything clicked into place for Buster all night and he showed tremendous resilience climbing up from a painful knockdown.

Re: Stupidest Excuses
Absolutely spot on.
The stars aligned for Douglas that day: Iron Mike didn't prepare properly because he believed his own hype; cut corners by employing appalling cornermen who were probably cheap and then Douglas decides to put on the performance of his career.
Re: Stupidest Excuses
And didn't Buster's mother die in the lead up to that fight ? It's funny how rank outsiders have to make do with adversity being an inspiration for them, but the stars of the sport are afforded excuses left, right and centre.
Re: Stupidest Excuses
Absolutely. Tyson had gonorrhea when he fought Berbick so it's not exactly like he was a monk in the build up to his other fights either.
