Oscar Rivas Signs Multi-Fight Deal With Top Rank
Heavyweight contender Oscar Rivas (26-1, 18 KOs) is close to finalizing a multi-fight promotional deal with Top Rank, according to The Montreal Journal.
Rivas has been out of the ring since losing a twelve round unanimous decision to Dillian Whyte last July at the O2 Arena in London. The contest had the WBC's interim title at stake. Whyte went down in the ninth round, but ultimately outworked Rivas to the finish line.
During that time period, Rivas was in serious negotiations to reach a deal with Top Rank - but those plans were put on hold when he was offered a lucrative deal to face Whyte in the main event of a Sky Sports Boxing Office card. It was carried in the United States by DAZN.
At the start of last year, Rivas picked up a twelfth round stoppage over veteran Bryant Jennings.
He was present in Verona, New York on Saturday night, to support GYM promotional stablemate Eleider Alvarez as he knocked out Michael Seals. Alvarez is co-promoted by GYM and Top Rank.
The deal is being finalized with the manager of Rivas, Stéphane Lépine.
According to The Journal, the first fight of this agreement would take place on March 28, when IBF, WBC light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev defends his world titles against mandatory challenger Fanlong Meng at the Videotron Center in Quebec.
Top Rank has been beefing up their heavyweight stock in the last few weeks, as they are also closing in on deal with undefeated Jarrell Miller and Olympic gold medal winner Tony Yoka. Top Rank also has their biggest heavyweight name, Tyson Fury, who faces WBC world champion Deontay Wilder next month in Las Vegas.

Top Rank taking over the HW scene slowly..
Re: Oscar Rivas To Sign Multi-Fight Deal With Top Rank
Only with their roster. They need some of them to actually face each other, or even schedule them against anyone else at least.

• Agit Kabayel - inactive & unaccomplished
• Bryant Jennings - a journeyman that now loses to novices
• Carlos Takam - recently defeated by Anthony Joshua & Dereck Chisora
• Guido Vianello - a novice that has only competed six times
• Jared Anderson - a journeyman
• Kubrat Pulev - a veteran 38 year old that will cease to be relevant when he loses to AJ
• Sonny Conto - a novice that has only competed six times
• Tyson Fury - committed to two bouts against Deontay Wilder
• Tony Yoka (not signed yet) - a controversial novice that has only competed seven times, but has bags of potential
• Oscar Rivas - beaten by Dillian Whyte during his most recent outing
Tyson Fury is currently the only fighter within the Top Rank stable that is classed amongst the top-ten world-rated heavyweights (by ESPN & The RING).

That's an impressive quartet of novices too. Yoka is headed for the top ten at least, Anderson shows real promise, and I'll stick my neck out and say that Vianello will spark many future arguments among Italian boxing fans as to whether he was the best heavyweight Italy ever produced even though he didn't win the title like Carnera.
Obviously not for good many years yet.

If Rivas has his second Top Rank fight against Otto Wallin you won't find me complaining
No I've not heard anything that's just a reference to the Fury fight

Jared Anderson is a prospect, but he is essentially a blown up cruiserweight. His most recent losses in 2018 & 2019 in the amateurs came against a 200lb-er and a 175lb-er.
And whilst he may indeed be a two-time American national champion, that's not saying much, because the US hasn't been a force in the amateur ranks for quite some time.
Is there a single fighter from the US rated amongst the top-ten in world amateurs, because I don't think there are any in the weight classes above 64KG?
Hence the reason why Jared Anderson elected to turn pro rather than compete in the Olympics.
He’s got youth and height on his side though.

Rivas vs. Hammer would be a solid HW fight. Hammer is one of those high level gatekeeper types and Rivas needs that sort of win under his belt.

Jared Anderson tasted defeat during his most recent amateur outing (February 2019), weighing 200lbs for that bout and faced an opponent that weighed precisely the same as he did.oogiebe wrote: ↑04 Mar 2020, 12:35Enlightened-One wrote: ↑04 Mar 2020, 10:11

He’s got youth and height on his side though. The kid just turned 20 and is 6'4" and almost 240 lbs. Hardly a blown up cw. Maybe a kid who has grown into HW.
His penultimate loss in the amateur ranks, which took place only three months prior, was against a fighter that consistently competes at 178lbs.
Jared Anderson has competed at the 201 lbs (91KG) weight class in the amateurs from 2016 through until 2019.
Jared was the American national champion, but he wasn’t good enough to achieve anything of note in the Olympics, despite being a dead-cert member of the US team for those games, hence the reason he chose to turn pro.
For sure, Jared Anderson is only 20 years of age and has the height and youth to grow and become a fully-fledged heavyweight. However, he’s not quite there yet, because it's impossible to gain 35lbs worth of muscle within a six month timeframe.

He gained 35lbs within a six month period when he made his debut in the pro ranks and all that weight couldn't have been pure muscle.
Am I daft? Of course I am, but that doesn't mean the facts I've listed aren't 100% accurate.

And beside, these two sentences are essentially saying precisely the same thing:
• “it's impossible to gain 35lbs worth of muscle within a six month timeframe”
• “He gained 35lbs within a six month period when he made his debut in the pro ranks and all that weight couldn't have been pure muscle”

35 lbs in six months for a 18/19 year old isn't atypical.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑04 Mar 2020, 13:08Six months is too quick, especially at that age.

What you fail to realise though, is that some of your counter-arguments mirror my very own sentiments that I’ve already conveyed multiple times within this thread.
