It is a terrific matchup. I’ll be going.

Certainly wouldn’t buy on PPV. This has probably kept Whyte in the good fights BUT maybe has spoiled him to the point that he’s not jumping at the chance to challenge for a title.

Has it already got to the point that if he’s not on PPV you won’t see him in the best shape?

When he finally challenges he’ll be asking for a King’s Ransom.

I do like him though, a hard nut, nasty, gets stuck in, and an overachiever.

Crazy that Pov hasn’t ever held one of the major belts actually, considering some of the people who’ve managed to get one.
For all the hype that surrounded him for a while though Pov has had some very uninspiring opponents to be honest. His resume isn’t as good as his reputation would suggest at times
His notable wins

Chagaev
Chambers
Byrd (faded)
Takam
Charr
Duhaupas
Wach
Hammer
Hughie
Price
Perez

He basically has a lot of second and third tier wins. There is nothing standout, but there are hardly any other fighters who have been consistently doing even this. And I mean look at the other contenders--Ortiz still fights guys like Raz Cojanu and Martz, Ruiz was fighting Dev Vargas not long before Josh, Pulev vs Rydell Booker, Usyk vs Witherspoon, Parker vs shot Leapai, Rivas vs Scott Alexander, etc. Povetkin has not been stooping that low for years has he?

He'd still be the best win or around that for pretty much any of the HWs

Decent fight, fair play to Whyte for taking it. Think he’ll grind out a decision.

His notable wins

Chagaev
Chambers (small, faded - couldn’t punch)
Byrd (faded and couldn’t punch)
Takam (who has he beaten?)
Charr (absolute shite)
Duhaupas (slow, punchbag)
Wach (slow, punchbag)
Hammer (small, at best gatekeeper type)
Hughie (whose best win is Sexton - can’t punch)
Price (old, glass chin, zero wins of any real note ever)
Perez (cruiserweight)

Nah he’s fought shite - the names you’ve listed above, which I’ve edited, are at best C level guys. Povetkin is more urban legend than a genuine world class guy

For whose resume can't you do the same if we try to spin it negatively? We can easily see too that other HW contenders are stooping much lower. And btw you clearly need to do your homework on some of those, Chambers was undefeated for example and not close to faded yet

For which of the HWs wouldnt he be one of their top wins ? Maybe like 1-2 at best, obviously he's no AJ or Fury but apart from just a couple guys he's right there

The point is that he’s 40 and he doesn’t have a single win of true world class significance on his record. Heavyweights have always been a thin talent pool, natural given their size. Just chocking up win after win against blown up cruiserweights and also rans doesn’t change that.
Povetkin hasn’t beaten anyone whose come close to winning a world title outside of Chagaev in 15 years. Pretty much tells you everything

Same goes for pretty much everyone then, who is leagues ahead of him? There is hardly any hws around these days who have beaten much betteer opposition, who haven't been stooping below who he's been fighting, and who wouldn't have him as a top win or two if they beat him. What you are criticizing him for goes for most guys worse.

A guy like Ortiz is easily Wilder's best win, and yet his big victory moment was beating a guy who could only squeak by 'cruiserwight' perez by 1 point due to a deduction. Whyte hasn't beaten anyone close to being much better than Pov, Pulev's been fighting far worse than Pov has, Parker's back to feasting on joureynmen and has the same apparently mediocre Takam and Hughie among his best 3 wins (but he did worse than Pov did against them), there is no good Americans doing anything atm outside Wilder, and so on and so on

It's a good matchup ,, don't think anyone believes Whyte is facing some elite absolutely top flight guy

I’m not disagreeing with any of that - they’re all very ordinary if measured at true world level and most have paper records. Whyte’s on a decent run but really only Parker could claim to be above C level. I’m just pointing out that Povetkin doesn’t really have a win of world class significance in 15 years as a professional - and yet plenty people seem to think he’s an elite level guy - which is bizarre

Hardly see anyone claiming he's elite level , clearly he's not with the likes of Josh or Fury, neither is Whyte or pretty much anyone else tbf

This should be a fantastically entertaining fight. I favor Whyte to win it, but only slightly. Povetkin to knock him out wouldn't shock me. I expect it to be closely contested enough that I doubt Pov is getting a decision.

Andy Ruiz’s next fight will be against Chris Arreola as well. Can you imagine the uproar if Chisora, Whyte or AJ fought Arreola (assuming he wasn’t a mandatory.)

Povetkin has some really good moves and is well schooled but his conditioning is not very impressive for a guy who lacks amazing speed or power. I had high hopes for him, at one point. Although, his fights with Huck, Price and Hunter were fun. Even the Joshua fight had its moments. I'd be very surprised if Whyte v Povetkin didn't have two-way drama.

Mark Tibbs, the head trainer of Whyte, is expecting a very dangerous bout.

"Povetkin is very dangerous. He's had a very highly-decorated amateur and pro career. This fight for Dillian is very very important. It's one that's going to get his juices flowing. I feel like it's going to be the birth of the all-rounder box fighter, the birth of a completed fighter. We don't underestimate anyone. It's going to be a proper humdinger. There's three ways to beating this guy, whether it's going forward or going back, or standing there and planting our feet and letting them go. It was a tough year but Dillian is back and I'm confident this is his time," Tibbs said.

Somebody want to explain to me "WHY" Dillian Whyte is now the WBC interim heavyweight champion?!

I thought Tyson Fury just beat Deontay Wilder to claim the WBC heavyweight prize!

What the hell happened!?

This pish must surely fall flat on its face? Who is buying it? Two good fighters but miles off PPV. Povetkin must have a following?
