Little Larry only had a jab and the occasional straight right and you think he is capable of beating Lewis, the Klitchkos and Fury who all would out-weigh him by 30-50 pounds, out reach him, and stand 3-6" taller??? Holmes is a cruiser by today's standards. Different era and a different weight class. Look at some of the men like Michael Spinks that beat Larry and see what they would have to offer against today's super-heavyweights?PUGLET wrote: ↑27 Feb 2020, 15:42If we’re talking post 1980’s heavies.... prime Larry Holmes “schools” all these chumps except LL, and THAT would be an intriguing fight, really, really interesting. For that matter, interested and motivated Riddick Bowe would be in the same boat, granted, he doesn’t REALLY deserve the consideration. Prime Evander Holyfield before the “brain damage/can’t let hands go” syndrome took over prolly beats all not including LL. Interesting that Tyson Fury is the first heavyweight since prime Wladimir to spark/merit these kinds of comparisons.sturm vogel wrote: ↑23 Feb 2020, 22:52 Tyson Fury

Re: Fury is the best HW since Lewis
Larry Holmes was only 35 years of age. He wasn't an old man, well not by today's heavyweight standards.
If you look at the BoxRec top 12 heavyweight rankings, the average age is 34.
Look at the age of these guys: Oleksandr Usyk, Deontay Wilder, Dereck Chisora, Luis Ortiz, Kubrat Pulev, Alexander Povetkin, Charles Martin, Dominic Breazeale, Oscar Rivas, Joe Joyce, Evgeny Romanov, Carlos Takam etc.
Holmes might not have been quite at his best agaist Spinks, but he wasn't well past his prime.
Larry looked great in his subsequent bouts against Oliver McCall, Evander Holyfield and Ray Mercer.

Actual age number doesnt matter. Ring age does
Spinks was his 20th title fight and 49th overall
They fought 15 round fights
Thats a lot more mileage than others on your list.

And he's right. A 35 year old boxer in the mid eighties was much older in mileage terms than a 35 year old boxer typically is in 2020.
EO intentionally missing the point there.

Ah...yes you're right. I see what he meant now. On EO...he's a buffoon. Hot air buffoon! LOL!
