Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev - 20 June 2020
I have a feeling that Pulev is looking at this as his cash-out fight.
The incident last year with the touchy-feely can’t have left a good taste with him.
I don’t know how much ambition he will bring to this.

Yeh, had he fought him as orginally scheduled in 2017, that would have been his cash out fight.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑05 Mar 2020, 14:04 I have a feeling that Pulev is looking at this as his cash-out fight.

He's basically just been waiting for a world title shot.
If he got 25% against Wlad, that would equate to arou d $2m he would have gotten.
EDIT.
I forgot, Wlad's team asked for a 80-20 in their favour and it was granted. so Pulev would have made $1,450,026
The original AJ-Pulev fight, Pulev was due to earn £4m. His largest payday.
So realistically, he's just played it safe, become mando somehow and got another shot.
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev - 20 June 2020
Pulev is past his best cannon fodder. The undercard needs to be genuinely good with real fights for me to shell out on this, otherwise I'll save my money for actual contests.
I note that Michael Hunter seems to be suffering a press blackout when Whyte - Povetkin is mentioned which must be annoying, as he beat Povetkin imo last time out.

Anthony Joshua's world heavyweight title fight could be rescheduled to July, says Eddie Hearn
Anthony Joshua's world heavyweight title fight against Kubrat Pulev could receive a new 'potential date' in July, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.
Britain's unified champion is due to defend his world titles at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20, live on Sky Sports Box Office, and Hearn hopes to retain that date, but is also considering new plans for the massive event after the coronavirus pandemic forced the postponement of bills in March and April.
The Matchroom Boxing boss is waiting for a final ruling on the Premier League fixtures, with Joshua set to appear at the home of Tottenham Football club, but suggested that the fight will still go ahead in Britain.
"A requirement for Anthony in his next fight, a necessity for him was to box in the UK," said Hearn. "June 20 is a long time away, it's still in our plans. We have been speaking to Tottenham and making sure that we're all on the same page.
"We know we have the same strategy moving forward. Obviously the Premier League decision will play a big part in a number of sports. Plans to put new dates in place and that fight as well.
"For the Anthony Joshua fight, already potential plans to move that fight back to July. We do have a potential date for that, but right now, hoping June 20 can remain the date."

Pulev has come out and said the fight has been postponed. But then again, he also said the fight would take place in Turjey.

"It is impossible for the fight to take place on June 20, although I am ready," Pulev, known as "The Cobra" said. "The match will take place a few months later, perhaps towards the end of the year."

Hearn is in the same la la land as the Olympic committee if he thinks this is happening then. Glasto is a week later and cancelled (and generates a fvck ton more money). COVID19 will be peaking then for sure

Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev - 25 July 2020?
Kubrat Pulev Expects To Face Anthony Joshua on July 25
Kubrat Pulev expects his mandatory fight with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua to take place on July 25.
At the moment the contest is scheduled to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20.
But the July date has been set aside as the June date becomes more and more less likely due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
At the moment, UK events are suspended until the end of May.
Eddie Hearn, the head promoter for the Joshua-Pulev card, was forced to cancel all of his planned events for March, April, and May.
Long in advance, Hearn set aside the date of July 25, but he also doesn't rule out the possibility of the event being pushed back even further.
"Despite humanity's most difficult fight to date and the underestimation of the effects on the world of the coronavirus, we will be forced to learn to live in a new, not so pleasant, way that millions of people around the world will be mildly unhappy," Pulev said.
"Despite the difficulties, we must find new opportunities to smile, to transform our lives so that despite all the unpleasant things, to remain happy and to believe in a better future, and that all of this is, after all, for good.
"This is exactly why, despite my real view of the situation, I strongly believe that a world title match can be held on the new date of July 25th. Let's prove that we humans are quickly adaptable, super flexible, with unlimited capabilities, and more powerful than a single virus.
"I personally would be very pleasantly surprised if the match took place on this date! This will prove to me that we can be united and live and work in harmony and that we may not be so far behind in thinking!"

Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev - 25 July 2020?
Hearn Reveals Small Crowd Plan For Fall Event
Eddie Hearn wants to stage Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title fight with Kubrat Pulev in front of a small crowd of high-roll at a high-profile London venue in October or November.
Speaking exclusively to BS.com, the promoter revealed that he is planning to stage the fight with a crowd of 1,000 at either the Royal Albert Hall or Olympia, in a plush VIP event.
At present there are no plans for sport to take place in the UK in front of crowds because of the coronavirus lockdown, but as restrictions start to ease, Hearn believes it will be possible to stage events in front of restricted crowds before the end of the year.
“I definitely see crowds coming back as early as September,” Hearn said.
“I really want to do the fight in the UK. So I am thinking AJ boxes in October or November, why can’t we go to the Royal Albert Hall or Olympia and do 1,000 people, a proper glitz and glamour event, charge people a lot of money to go, dinner before, a party, drinks and everyone is a couple of metres apart from everyone.”
After boxing abroad twice in 2019, Joshua had insisted his next fight with Pulev, the IBF mandatory contender, would be at home. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20 was announced as the venue and date, but when the coronavirus lockdown was announced, those plans were scrapped and it soon became clear that an alternative date of July 25 would not be possible either.
The problem facing Hearn is that the lack of an expected 60,000 live gate puts a huge whole in the finances for the fight. By keeping the audience to a small, select group, Hearn believes he can maximise the gate revenue.
“If you are doing 1,000 tickets, there is a dinner before and an after-party, it is a hell of a ticket if you are a fight fan to go and watch something like that so close up,” Hearn said.
“We just have to be creative; people will want to go out. It will take time for people to rediscover the confidence to go to event with crowds.
“I know there is a chance there could be a second spike, but if they start opening up restaurants in July and outdoor pubs, it will be very difficult to not allow gatherings of 100, 200, 500 or 1,000.”
It had been rumoured that Saudi Arabia, where Joshua won his rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in December, might be a possible location, but Hearn said it was unlikely that they would be confident to commit to staging an event like Joshua-Pulev yet, even if he admitted he was open to offers.
“I think if Saudi are going to look for a return of boxing it will be more like the back end of the year, November or December,” Hearn said. “I don’t think anyone has any confidence right now to be booking things up and spending money.
“You see [Bob] Arum talking about the Far East and Australia, there are definitely going to be countries that are wanting to establish themselves as open for business.
“So, staging a big fight and maybe a big heavyweight fight might be appealing to them. That goes for Oleksandr Usyk- Dereck Chisora [which had been originally scheduled for last weekend] and AJ-Pulev.”
Hearn said he had also received no firm offer to stage the event in Croatia, after it was reported that there had been a move to stage it at a Roman amphitheatre at the resort city of Pula on the Adriatic coast.
“We have had no official confirmation of offers from Croatia, but discussions are ongoing and we are open to that,” he said. “It looks like a fantastic arena. If the deal was right we would have no problem looking at that as well.”

Joshua-Pulev Targeted For November, Fury Unification Talks Continue
Eddie Hearn believes he may be able to stage Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev in front of a decent-sized crowd in November.
Hearn says he is hopeful that he could be able to stage the fight at the O2 Arena, London, where he won his first world title from Charles Martin in 2016 or Manchester Arena, where he made his second title defence later that same year.
Even if social distancing measures are still in place, he hopes a crowd of around 5,000-10,000 could be allowed in the 20,000-capacity venues. And such a crowd could be doubled if it was staged at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, which has a normal capacity of more than 70,000.
“I spoke to Bob Arum [who promotes Pulev] last night and November is the absolute focus for Pulev against Joshua,” Hearn said.
“The way things have moved in the last few weeks here, I’m really confident we can get a crowd here for Joshua against Pulev.”
Hearn has been looking at the possibility of staging the fight in front of a VIPs-only crowd of around 1,000 at the Royal Albert Hall paying four-figure ticket prices. The fight had initially been scheduled for the 60,000-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend before the coronavirus lockdown put paid to that.
No sporting events at the moment are allowing spectators, although with lockdown measures easing, Hearn says he is hopeful that crowds will come back in some form in September.
“If we’re not allowed the Principality Stadium, we’ll happily go to Manchester Arena or The O2. It would be amazing to see Josh fight back there.
“I’m confident and we’re starting to talk to venues that aren’t open yet about the possibility of opening those venues up should they be allowed.”
Hearn also said that he expected talks for a Joshua-Tyson Fury fight to take a step forward soon, with Arum having taken over responsibility for negotiating the side of the WBC heavyweight champion from Daniel Kinahan, whose alleged connections to an organised crime group led to questions being asked in the Irish parliament.
“[Arum] is in charge of everything and that’s all right with me,” Hearn said.
“We had a really good chat last night, talking about Joshua-Fury, talking about the fact that, 'yes we know we’ve agreed the money and how the split’s going to work'. Now we need to move forward, particularly on where that fight will be staged, when it will be staged.
“Over the next month or so we’ll be putting the paperwork together for that and finalising it for 2021.”

Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev could take place on a BOAT, says Eddie Hearn with Croatian coliseum still an option
Anthony Joshua's latest world heavyweight title defence could be held on a boat, according to Eddie Hearn.
Hearn said he was looking at “quirky ideas” to mark Joshua’s return to the ring — provisionally scheduled for November against Kubrat Pulev after the pair’s fight last month at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had to be postponed because of the coronavirus.
The O2 is the frontrunner venue but the promoter told Standard Sport: “Other ideas we have are 1,000 people somewhere strange and quirky. I’ve got a few things up my sleeve. We’re talking about castles, plush hotels, maybe even on a boat.
“Croatia have offered a coliseum — and that’s beautiful —and we’re still open to options and flexible.
"These are all things thinking outside of the box — it just depends what’s allowed.”
Although London’s O2 leads the UK options, it depends on whether the Government ease restrictions. Hearn added: “By November, can we go to 16,000 people at the O2? Right now, we’re handcuffed by the regulations.”

Very regular guy AJ. After Saudi he’s giving back to the fans, on a boat, or at the Albert Hall for a few grand each. Might take the kids.
