Overrated/underrated performances

Post by margaret thatcher »

Think BJS vs Lem is a bit overrated, people started treating him like some masterful boxer but even face defense GGG was slick as they come vs Lem, but nowehere near that vs most other guys. Willie Monroe , another guy they both beat, is better than Lem and was more like 116-112/116-113 vs bjs

I read from many knowledagble posters, including known lovers of 'skillz', that Wilder really showed improvment in the rematch vs Ortiz, a guy he had already ko'd , despite losing pretty much every minute. That baffled me to see some of the people who were talking about Wilder 's improvements and he sure didn't carry any improvement over vs Fury

as far as underrated, CEJ absolutely evaporated Avni Yildrim who has since shown some good durability and almost beat Ant Dirrell, I think people often exaggerate how much bjs beat him by as well, it was really close with BJS hardly winning any of the last 5

Canelo was excllent in GGG 2 as well but just won't be given the credit

Wlad koing Pulev a bit overrated too, Wlad was actually awful between the kds, being hurt by jabs and floundering around, and those were as much Pulev sticking his chin in the air as anything

The Alavarez GGG 2 is interesting. It was one of the best performances by both men at 160 that I've ever seen. My problem is that as great as Alvarez was that night I thought he lost, close but clear. This robs Golovkin of another win.

Haskins blew away Iwassa which considering he's not a noted puncher is decent

Interesting to see how everyone views these things. I see Jnr as one of the most over rated fighters in the last 20 years who really doesn’t have a single win of note and has feasted on no bodies and names who are faded beyond recognition. From a technical point of view I thought his loss to Groves was embarrassing.

That’s the trouble - the consensus is that Golovkin won both fights in a close but clear manner. The extremely predictable pro-Canelo scorecards left a very sour taste, so his excellent performance does get overlooked.

DeGales win against Dirrell was a bit overrated. Great achievement but he done his usual and took his foot off the gas and let Dirrell back in to it.

Tillis against Tyson: underrated. With that performance he'd have beaten loads of guys rated above him since.

Good shout, basically went 6-4 with Tyson a few months before Mike won the title

Going back a bit- maybe Leonard v Lalonde- how can you win two weight titles in one fight and make the natural LH come in at 168😳

Benns win over Barkley was underrated for me, same for McAuley over Matlala and Jamie McDonnells 2 wins over the Japanese lad.

Ricky Burns besting Graeme Earl gets overlooked a fair bit. Earl was an undefeated British champion at the time and we’ll thought of by many. As a pro Burns was a complete novice but he boxed very nicely that night

I was gonna lol at Rico Hoye (who was sh!te when I saw him after fighting Woods) but then I checked his record and he actually had farbetter wins leading into that fight than I'd thought, so ya, perhaps that is underrated indeed, maybe not quite the same fighter after that

See I don’t think that win is under rated over here. Every time someone suffers a really brutal injury in a fight Williams sparking Potter with one arm gets brought up. It was an unbelievable comeback and show of bravery but I think it’s pretty well recognised?

Amir Khan didn't seem to get a lot of credit for beating Marcus Maidana, which considering Maidana was 29-1 (27 KOS) at the time, went on take the 0 from Broner and give FMM fits it really was a decent win for Khan.
