I know this might not mean anything to some of you, but in the last week I recieved an email from Boxingranks.com saying that from June 30th' the site will cease to be, the ranking poll, the news wire and the message board will close.
I hold very fond memories of the site, it was my first site I yahoo'd (in the days before google) "boxing" many years ago, and even though its not the massive site it once was (due to it being hacked and spammed for about 7 months solid around 2002) it still has a very good "hardcore" base and still the best current scene message board by far.
I don't know if anybody had any memories of the boxingranks site, were you an old school poster there? or were you a reader....
Perhaps its not too late to change the site owner's mind, although I suspect he has thought about it long and hard before making this decision.
It noy only the first boxing site I ventured on, but the first forum - and one I will always call "home".
If you would like to share some memories of boxingranks... then drop a few words here.
End of an era.

Thought my post would get a response like that.... I just thought I would let people know.Southpaw Stylist wrote:Catching feelings over a website?
Yes, I am gutted that it is going.... Personally, I don't think there is anything "sad" or "anorak" about that. If Boxing News or Boxing Monthly had decided to cease to be there would be outcry on the forum. I know both have a bigger tradition and are generally held in higher guard than the internet, but its still both are just media based output giving us boxing news, views and opinions.
As I said, of course Boxing News especially has a great tradition as the trade newspaper, but I know what I have gone on boxingranks far more often than I pick up and read any boxing magazine in the last 2-3 years. So in that case, I would miss boxingranks more so than the mags - so I thought it was worth mentioning.
boxingranks was the best site ever. greg smith, charles farrell, frank lotierzo put out some great stuff. you can catch phil woolever's work at TSS. and you can read nat gottlieb's (who ran b/ranks) great work at our website http://www.tigerboxing.comstujones wrote:Oh, my last post wasn't supposed to be a dig even if you weren't joking. I can see why someone would think that, and do respect that stance.Southpaw Stylist wrote:Nah I'm only joking man.
sadly ranks was long dead. recently it was putting out little more than pressers wasn't it? damn shame.

There was a few articles being put up there recently, Tom Luffman (a message board poster) was putting up a few pieces, some of it quite decent but never got the publicity.
