Ending boxers career
Ending boxers career
There are many great fights you wont ever forget in life. Its sad when great boxers are never the same.
Julio Cesar Chaves vs Meldrick Taylor 1 (Meldrick Taylor was probably one or the fastest hands I have ever seeing in boxing, after this fight he was gone, his career was never the same)
Orlando Salido vs Juan Manuel Lopez (Lopez never recovered from those 2 battles, I thought Orlando Salido was going to be an easy fight for Juanma)
Any other fights you can think of

Matthew Saad Muhammad was never the same after running into Dwight Qawi twice.
Re: Ending boxers career
As delighted as I was for John Stracey and Lloyd Honeyghan there was a certain sadness at seeing the downfall of the great Jose "Mantequilla" Napoles and "The Lone Star Cobra" Don Curry, once the dust had settled. In Curry's case it wasn't his last fight as I recall but the aura of invincibility was gone.
Of course such examples are nothing compared to a fight ending a boxer's life along with his career. There are too many tragedies to list, but the sight of young Johnny Owen "The Merthyr Matchstick" being carried away on a stretcher with the baying and jeering, not forgetting being spat upon, by the locals was as bad as it gets. They didn't know he was dyiing of course but it was still a despicable way to behave.

Re: Ending boxers career
I was worried Mikey Garcia wasn't gonna be the same after that hiding against Spence but he looks like he has some big fights left in him providing they're at the correct weight.
Naz after Barrera. Had one more low key fight and was never seen in a ring again.

Re: Ending boxers career
Two winning performances which effectively ended careers:-
Joe Frazier V Muhammad Ali 1 - Smokin' Joe was never the same fighter again. Frazier did win fights after, but it was clear that he was very diminished.
Nigel Benn V Gerald McClellan - Nigel was effectively finished after this fight, despite making a couple of successful defences, his elite days were behind him.

Pretty sure Golota did that after Bowe’s many years of weight fluctuation.
I think you could argue Bowe ruined Golota as well

Bowe ruined Bowe
If he was more disciplined and didn't run from Lewis
he might be viewed much more favorably now.

I don't know if he physically ruined him, but being f*cked over twice in the Andre Ward fights ruined Kovalev.
