Re: How many cards get canceled because of coronavirus?
How much does a card depend on the gate? The more it does, the more likely to be cancelled. Seems like only the biggest cards get a big PPV right? So smaller cards that aren't ppv go away completely? Only the biggest remain, or do they make so much from gate that they just postpone them?
I would guess they could postpone everything 6 months, it's not like boxers are very active anyway. Maybe Canelo will still box on Cinco de Mayo to an empty arena lol.

I think basically every big card is going to get scrapped for the next few months at least. What happens in that scenario who knows but I can't see anywhere able to put 10,000 in a room for a while.
No expert but been watching this thing since January when there were 100 cases all in Wuhan, and I'm fairly confedent UK and USA is looking bleak for big shows. (Admitadly in the USA it's focused in certain states), but still can't see a state wanting the potential for so many states wanting to jam 10000 people in a room.
Find a book to read cause it's Gunna be a shit year for sport.

Montreal boxing events canceled due to COVID-19

MONTREAL, MARCH 11 , 2020: The Régie des Alcools, des Courses et des Jeux cancels the boxing galas that were to take place tomorrow, March 12th as well as those of March 14th and 21st 2020 following the recommendation of the Regional Directorate of Public Health of Montreal (CIUSSS du Center-Sud-de-l’Ile-de-Montréal) regarding the epidemiological risk of introduction and transmission of COVID-19.
Eye of the Tiger Management asked, however, whether it was possible to have the fights while being closed to the public, something which was refused given the risk associated with close physical contact between participants.
Eye of the Tiger Management will reimburse ticket buyers for its two events on March 12 and 14. For purchases made on the web via Ticketmaster, a refund will be made automatically. For purchases made at the Cabaret’s box office, please come in person during the box office’s operating hours (Tuesday to Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
The weigh-in on March 13th and the meet and greets to be held with David Lemieux and Arslanbek Makhmudov as part of the 144H boxing week are also canceled.

Time to hit the casinos. At least with entertainment, especially major sports, it'll soon bounce back, like a season following a strike.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑13 Mar 2020, 07:46Pretty crazy, I mean the tens of billions in cancelled sports from some of the world's greediest organizations and people in 24 hours perked me up.

It will depend a lot on location. The UFC in Brazil is going ahead this weekend but the Bellator in Connecticut is being held with no spectators and the TR boxing card at MSG was canceled.
Promoters probably won't be enthusiastic to hold cards where the live gate is 0.

Very few cases in Mexico so far, so maybe they felt it wasn't necessary. I'm actually kind of surprised the UFC removed the crowd in Brazil as there aren't many cases there either. But I guess it's good to get ahead of this thing.

Literally Golden Boy, PBC, Matchroom USA have had to cancel shows in New York, Nevada and California.
More to follow. Top Rank have already cancelled some too.
Canadian shows are being cancelled.
DiBella has confirmed he's losing out on a lot of money due to cancelling 2 of his shows.

The BBBofC have cancelled all public tournaments under its jurisdiction due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The BBBofC will review the situation in April.
The coronavirus is expected to reach its peak in the UK within the next 12 to 14 weeks, which essentially rules-out any bouts taking place on British shores until July.

They won't be the highest level but it's something.

They should test the participants and get the revenue from PPV and TV. Then they wouldn't have to cancel.
