Yeh, Duke was another one who came across as a complete class act and found out loads about him I didn't know before. Made me appreciate him far more.

Claude Abrams' one was fascinating as well.

Agreed about Duke. Absolute class act.
He was unlucky not to have a ‘dance partner’ to cross him over.
3 weight World champion is a hell of an achievement.

Of the ones I've enjoyed so far which are : Ian Darke, Jamie Moore, Adam Booth, Robert Smith, Chris Eubank jnr, Duke McKenzie and Gavin Rees....Tris Dixon is superb at getting the most out of his subjects, just superb. The detail real boxing fans want to learn about, like the amateur fights/career, forgotten fights, career best wins, overseas wins...fantastic! (Hated the Richard Towers pod, the bloke's a plonker and when you look at the above quality doesn't deserve to be mentioned in boxing circles).

Forget the Costello & Bunce pods with them constantly harping on about the heavyweights or PPV, Dixon's pods are the real deal. Costello & Bunce even had the chance to redeem themselves with a pod dedicated to James Cook and right royally f#cked it up

Tris...if you could show those 2 twerps how it's done, James Cook would make an amazing boxing life story :TU:

I digress....thanks for the heads-up about the Elcock pod, looking forward to listening to that one.

Good domestic, fringe European level boxer was Elcock.

Beating Bendall is no mean feat and definitely noteworthy. I last saw Bendall working Bryn Wain's corner...his charge doesn't have the lovely skills that Bendall did, but certainly the bravery and bottle !

Yes, Eastman was on the downward curve but Elcock boxed beautifully that night winning the British title and there have been plenty of easier opponents beaten in a British title fight.

Elcock never stood a chance against Abraham's but tried and ended up being knocked out on his feet in about 5 rounds. Macklin also walloped him in quick fashion.

A decent British middleweight with a good career to look back on is a fair summary IMO.
Good post. Boxing Life Stories is a cracking podcast. I work nights, pretty much on my own so it's nice to settle in to a nice 2 hours listening to some of the guys I've grown up watching.

Really enjoyed the Duke McKenzie and Barry Jones ones, but the highlight was Jamie Moore for me.

Long may it continue.

Unbelievably good podcast. Makes me laugh how many bit hard men end up bawling. Tris is fearless with his questions but still clearly empathetic. Most of the guests talk about other times they’ve met Tris and how much they trust him.

When you combine the great characters with his ability it really works well.

I had no idea Barry Jones didn’t drink, he’s always in the pub. And Duke McKenzie was so cool and clever.

Gavin Rees' is well worth a listen. Very candid and sweary but also very honest and matter of fact about things.

I was at the macklin fight battle of brum crazy atmosphere the ring girls in blues kits one fell out the ring. Tyson fury fought on that card very early in his career.

The McDermott cut was a real bad one. That fight was just catching fire.
