And he named his son Cassius Haye
How can you not just love that?
Isn't his second called Marvin?

I’m not talking money - that’s why I said it sounds daft saying it

He could have dominated the cruisers before moving up and cashing-in

Instead of being remembered for being a great boxer people remember his bad toe

You could argue he is not arsed as he sits counting his money, but I bet he is

He was a fantastic Cruiserweight in his prime.

Weird how he was seen as the 'Great Black Hope' to beat Wlad yet he's not even black, he's mixed race.

Haye wasn't really racialized at all if I recall, as in he was the UK hope, boxing's saviour , etc, not for a race in particular. If he were American he probably would have been I bet, in fact he probably would've been crushed on his way to the ring by a black power outfit :maybe:

If he had an identity it was South East London - that is what I knew him as.

Good fighter and an exciting one. There weren't many boring fights of his and was one of our best heavyweights.

Thinking about it, his fights came in three varieties:

1) Fun Early(ish) KO (Enzo, Gurov, Bonin and most of the guys he fought on the way up)
2) Exciting to-and-fro (Mormeck, Chisora, Fragomeni, Thompson)
3) Rare Stinker (Klitschko, Harrison, Valuev, Abdoul)

Maybe you weren't around the online boxing community back then. But I assure you he was. All the Black americans were supporting him as they hated the Klitschkos with a passion. If you just google david haye great black hope you'll see links to threads and posts from around that time on numerous forums

I try to not relate race to athletes. I like an athlete for their ability.
I was cheering for Haye to beat Wlad but I cheered for all of his opponents simply because I found Wlad boring.
I think Wlad is and was a great role model.
But damn his grab and hug style bored me
