Jessie Magdaleno (27-1) will look to win his third fight in a row on March 14th on the Shakur Stevenson-Miguel Marriaga undercard. The ESPN card when finalized will take place at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square in New York. His opponent has yet to be finalized.

It's okay. Marriage is decent at 126 and gave Valdez a tough fight (though seems everyone is these days lol)

It's fine considering he's insisting on a fight instead of waiting.

Stevenson was calling out Warrington, the IBF champion, long before he won his world title. But when offered the chance for the fight to take place on May 16 at Elland Road, the home ground of Leeds United, Stevenson chose the other option of facing former Vassily Lomachenko victim Miguel Marriaga at the Madison Square Garden Theater on March 14.

“It’s at an impasse,” allegedly, Warrington’s promoter, said when asked about the prospects of the fight still going ahead. “He chose another fight.”

If Stevenson believes the fight could just be salvaged for another date, he could be disappointed, as ticket sales played a significant part in making the fight viable and Elland Road is unlikely to be available again until next year.

A combination of the expected Anthony Joshua-Kubrat Pulev fight and the European Football Championships effectively make another pay-per-view in June early July unlikely, while Leeds United are on target for their first return to the Premier League since. That season would kick-off on August 8 and the club would not risk any damage to the pitch in the weeks up to that.

The fight at Elland Road could draw a potential crowd of 30,000, while the First Direct Arena has a capacity of only 13,000.

All of which could have Warrington looking elsewhere for a unification fight.

This is Marriaga's 4th title shot despite having 0 wins of consequence.

Sometimes I think TR matchmaking is better than PBC. This is not one of those times. Especially considering Jessie Magdaleno is on the undercard and he'd have made a very good challenger for Stevenson.

I think it would have been illegal to go ahead with the card with spectators since NY has banned gatherings of 500 people or more.

Have they shut down their subways?

Boxers react to fight cancellations and share future plans

Shakur Stevenson, featherweight titleholder, scheduled to fight Miguel Marriaga this past Saturday in New York: I was mad because I wanted to fight. I understand it. This is very serious. Everybody just really felt for me. I think canceling the fights was the right decision.

Edgar Berlanga, super middleweight, scheduled to fight Alan Campa this past Saturday in New York: I put in a lot of work into this fight, but it's a crisis right now, so there's nothing we can do. They stopped all sports in the world. I'm sad because I trained so hard for this fight, an eight-week camp, a long camp. I had a lot of sparring. I sparred with Sergiy Derevyanchenko. To have it canceled two days before the fight is B.S. I sold over $40,000 in tickets, had people coming in from Puerto Rico, a lot of my fans, so it's sad.

Ray Moylette, lightweight, scheduled to fight Larry Fryers this past Saturday in Boston: I was very disappointed with the decision to cancel the fight. I had put so much into the last few months of training trying to give myself the best chance of getting back on the ladder. It had been mooted that fight night was in danger of being canceled, but as an athlete and a fighter, I had to stay positive and optimistic that it would still go ahead and I would get my chance.

There is no guarantee that Stevenson will face Marriaga in the future. The world champ is likely going to face another opponent.

"During the afternoon of Friday the 13th they gave me the bad news. It was hard. I dreamed of presenting Arjona with the world boxing title, it has always been my dream to get my family ahead," Marriaga told Andres Utria.

"God will give me the opportunity to make the dream of becoming world champion come true. This time it could not be done."

During the entire preparation stage in Cartagena, Mexico and New York (more than two months) he tried his best and perfectly prepared his left hook, his deadly weapon.

For his part, his coach Samuel Gómez said that “it hurts because we made such a great effort. We arrived a month earlier in Mexico looking for better physical-athletic conditions. Miguel prepared himself conscientiously, ran more than 2,600 meters above sea level in the desert of Toluca and Los Leones. We had a very good strategy, but God is perfect and we will continue training. The new opportunity will come."
