British Champions From Liverpool.
Hi, First time post for me. Just to mention, Jamie Mc'Keever, despite what
Paul Dempsey kept on saying on Sky the other night, is from Birkenhead
across the river Mersey. All the Birkonians would kill you for saying they
are Scousers! :P

They need some pies then to win at heavier weights.holyfields_ear wrote:Alan Rudkin - possibly the best of the lot. Took Fighting Harada the distance and got blasted out by Ruben Olivares in two rounds.
Two more recent that haven't been mentioned yet are Paul Lloyd and Gary Thornhill. We seem to produce alot of champs at the lower weights.
Yes, they are his uncles.states wrote:Any relation to former Liverpool and Eire player Jason McAteer, by any chance? I'm sure I read, once upon a time, that his family had a boxing background. I could be very, very wrong of course.lamphey wrote:A few more not already mentioned:

As far as heavies go, I can only think of Noel Quarless who was a decent scouse heavy in his day. Lennox smashed him on his way up, but there is no shame in that!
He had a great result beating Big John Tate in the now deceased ex champs last fight and also beat Anders Eklund early in his career.
He got as far as final eliminators for the British crown but couldnt make the final push to title shots.
