Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
According to a report by The Sun, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has agreed to pay £1.5 million to settle a breach of contract lawsuit with former promoter Mick Hennessy.
Fury, 31-years-old, made his debut on a Hennessy card in 2008 and fought under his banner until 2015 - when Fury shocked the world that November to defeat Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF, WBO, WBA, IBO world titles.
When Fury finally returned in 2018, he signed a promotional deal with allegedly. And the following year Fury would sign a very lucrative co-promotional deal with Top Rank.
Hennessy filed a lawsuit against Fury, claiming that he breached the terms of their promotional deal.
A few days before the case was heading to court, they reached an agreement.
A source told the paper: “Both Tyson and Mick thought they were in the right. Mick brought legal action and Tyson decided it was easier to settle rather than go through a drawn-out legal battle. Both are happy they are now able to move on.”
In his book Behind The Mask, Fury said he no longer spoke to Hennessy, and admitting “it’s very sad”.

Compared to what he's earning now, peanuts.
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
A drawn-out legal battle Fury could easily afford if he thought he had acted in accordance with his contract. What does Tyson know about being in the "right".
Good for Hennessy !

Fury had been with Mick for ages. He did say it was sad that they're no longer talking.
TBH, Mick never had the money or the platform for Fury's comeback, he would have needed to probabl sign a co-promotional deal with Franklyn W anyway.
As long as all parties are happy now. compared to Fury's current purses, £1.5m is peanuts for him. Mick seemed to have settled with it too.

Well deserved for Mick after what he put in to Tyson's career & the other high profile fighter's that seemed to shaft Mick when they got to a certain level ie ££££ .

Didn't Mick lose £1,000,000 on bringing Parker over to fight Hughie , I think Hennessy is a decent guy that can't compete with the big boys hopefully he out the money to good use
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
I don’t usually have much sympathy for promoters but you’ve got to feel for Mick - all the boxers he took on and did well have fooked him off when the big money cane in

He’s done well to get 1.5million then.
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
I don't really get all the sympathy for Hennessey. I can't remember all the fighters he had that left him (whoever they are, they've all left) but the main guys I remember him having were Carl Froch and The Fury cousins. He got them on terrestrial TV which was great but he had two of the most marketable guys in recent British boxing history in Froch and Tyson and when it came to taking them to the next level he dropped the ball. He overpriced Fury-Klitschko 2 to the point where nobody bought tickets, and he just can't promote people in the same way that Fish Eyes and Rich Boy Eddie can. He's obviously got an eye for talent, but he seems like he can only take boxers so far and if they really want to actually make money they have to leave him. He can't promote big fights. When we talk about boxers who've taken losses at world level and being domestic or European level we say "there's nothing wrong with that" and that's Hennessey. He's British/European level at best and can't take fighters beyond that. When they leave, all of a sudden they're making millions and get all the big fights.Floyd the snake wrote: ↑23 Mar 2020, 08:14 Well deserved for Mick after what he put in to Tyson's career & the other high profile fighter's that seemed to shaft Mick when they got to a certain level ie ££££ .
I hope he invests his 1.5 million wisely.
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
As others have said, if Mick was stupid enough to never have a handwritten contract with the Fury's then it's actually quite nice of Tyson to bung him a million or so. He could have taken him to court and dragged through a costly legal process which Tyson would have likely won. The fact he hasn't done that seems to me to be quite a kind thing to do.bripez wrote: ↑23 Mar 2020, 09:22 I don’t usually have much sympathy for promoters but you’ve got to feel for Mick - all the boxers he took on and did well have fooked him off when the big money cane in

Fury doesnt hold a BBBoC licence anymore. Is there any reason why he now fights with a Nevada licence?

I'm not sure about a million. But as we all witnessed, there were stacks of empty seats at a venue where the top tier was closed off as well.paddy chavez wrote: ↑23 Mar 2020, 08:18 Didn't Mick lose £1,000,000 on bringing Parker over to fight Hughie , I think Hennessy is a decent guy that can't compete with the big boys hopefully he out the money to good use
Parker's team did hold out until Parker's purse was confirmed in escrow.

Parker’s purse was £900k and Hughie’s was around £750k.KiwiRider wrote: ↑23 Mar 2020, 16:08I'm not sure about a million. They shouldn’t have pissed about and just let the fight take place on NZ. The purses there was equalling around $3m overall.
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
They also included Darren Barker, Kid Galahad, John Murray, Chris Eubank Jr., James DeGale.clopixolacuphase wrote: ↑23 Mar 2020, 11:27I don't really get all the sympathy for Hennessey. I always remember it was Hennessy that entered Froch straight into the Super Six and pitting him against the best in the division - a marked contrast to what allegedly had done for years with Joe Calzaghe.
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
That would have made more sense from an arena filling perspective. Parker was filling 14,000 seats here. On the flip side, it was PPV in NZ at an eye watering £25.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑23 Mar 2020, 16:15Parker’s purse was £900k and Hughie’s was around £750k.

Not sure who got that money in the end, or if it went towards purses.

You’re just blindly speculating, aren’t you? Why do you think Fury would have likely won? Have you seen the particulars of claim?clopixolacuphase wrote: ↑23 Mar 2020, 11:30As others have said, if Mick was stupid enough to never have a handwritten contract with the Fury's then it's actually quite nice of Tyson to bung him a million or so. Paying out £1.5m to settle a frivolous claim, that doesn’t have any prospect of success seems entirely illogical. But then again, I don’t know Jack sh1t about the case....

They always used to say they didn't have a contract and that everything was based on a handshake and trust.
Just sounds a bit shaky that one if true.
Just speculation though. That's what most of the posts are around this sort of thing aren't they? What, you only expect people with special insider knowledge to post?
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
Don't know for sure ,, But i would have thought a handshake and agreement , ESPECIELLY a public one , would be legaly binding to an extent . And both said publicly thats what they had

There is a big shot lawlyer guy who posts sometimes and knows his stuff?? Maybe he could tell us about the whole written/spoken stuff...it's come up a lot in boxing .I wonder if slapping willies works as a contract too
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
The reason he doesn’t have a board licence is simply so he doesn’t have to give the board any money out of his purses for doing nothing once you get into mega purses why give money away to the board in tax
Re: Tyson Fury Pays £1.5 Million To Settle Lawsuit With Mick Hennessy
A legally binding contract doesn't strictly need writing in most cases (sale / long leases of land is one exception). It can come into existence through oral agreement or even through conduct. The main problem, if you're trying to sue to enforce it, is evidencing without writing a) that the contract exists and b) what the terms were.
