I think the best he can hope for is a Felix Sturm v De La Hoya type fight, where he boxes well but of course the judges don’t give him any credit. But from the sounds of the latest news stories he doesn’t deserve these opportunities.

Canelo On Fighting Plant Or Saunders: I'll Adapt To Any Style, Be The Winner
Two of Canelo Alvarez’s potential opponents for his likely fight early in May have vastly different styles than Callum Smith.
Alvarez nevertheless expressed confidence during a post-fight press conference early Sunday morning regarding possible bouts against left-handed Billy Joe Saunders and right-handed Caleb Plant, both terrific technical fighters. England’s Saunders, the WBO super middleweight champion, and the United States’ Plant, the IBF 168-pound champ, each would provide Alvarez a chance to add one of the two remaining super middleweight titles he needs to become the undisputed champion in that division.
“I adapt to all styles,” Alvarez said through a translator after a dominant 12-round victory over Smith at Alamodome. “I adapted for Callum Smith this time around, and I’ll prepare for any style. I will always prepare for any style and I’ll be ready. I’ll always be ready and be the winner.”
The 28-year-old Plant (20-0, 12 KOs), a native of Ashland City, Tennessee, presumably would be available to battle Alvarez on May 8 if Plant beats former IBF champ Caleb Truax (31-4-2, 19 KOs, 1 NC) on January 30 and leaves the ring relatively healthy.
The 31-year-old Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs) doesn’t have a fight scheduled.
Saunders and Alvarez, who owns the WBA and WBC titles, reached an agreement to fight seven months ago. The Alvarez-Saunders fight, which would’ve taken place May 2 in Las Vegas, was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 30-year-old Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KOs) could return to the ring quickly after ending a 13-month layoff by defeating England’s Smith (27-1, 19 KOs) by unanimous decision. The four-division champion and promoter Eddie Hearn told Boxing Scene before Alvarez beat Smith that he is willing to making a mandatory defense of the WBC belt he won Saturday against Avni Yildirim (21-2, 12 KOs) sometime in February in Mexico.
Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing doesn’t have a promotional agreement with Alvarez beyond Saturday night. Alvarez, who separated from longtime partner Golden Boy Promotions before he faced Smith, expressed a willingness during the press conference to continue working with Hearn and DAZN beyond Saturday night.
Finally fighting Gennadiy Golovkin in a long-awaited third bout also is a possibility for Alvarez’s appearance in May.
“Look, what I want is whatever my team wants, what Eddy wants,” Alvarez said, referring to trainer/manager Eddy Reynoso. “He’s the one that tells me, so you know, we’re trying to make history here, be the second Latino that [fully] unifies the titles like this.”

Cinco de Mayo is always the 5th regardless of day. But I guess it’s just figuring out which side of the weekend they want to go for.gregregegg wrote: ↑28 Jan 2021, 21:27 Surely they have figured out what weekend will be cinco de mayo weekend. i mean, 5th of may is a Wednesday this year, but surely its something thats happened enough that its known what weekend is the big one.

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - May 2021
Gigantic new $2billion ‘Death Star’ stadium could host Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders in May
Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders reportedly could take place at the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The WBA, WBC and WBO super-middleweight world title unification is now agreed to take place on May 1 or May 8, providing Canelo comes through his next fight against Avni Yildirim unscathed on February 27.
The next step is to solidify the date and confirm a venue.
Promoter Eddie Hearn and Canelo’s manager Eddy Reynoso are organising the fight together.
According to ESPN Mexico, their first choice would be the new Allegiant Stadium which opened last year for the Las Vegas Raiders NFL team.
This gigantic ultra-modern structure stands out in the Nevada desert, with Vegas’ other landmarks made to look small in comparison.
Sin City has never had a mega stadium before and is used to hosting big fights in its famous indoor arenas.
However, the MGM Grand and T-Mobile Arena only have capacities of around 17,000 and 20,000 respectively.
The Allegiant Stadium can host upward of 60,000.
In today’s times of social distancing and restricted crowds, the Allegiant Stadium may be able to house between 10,000-20,000 people – a number the indoor arenas simply cannot match at present.
The stadium itself cost $1.975billion to build and ran $175million over the initial £1.8billion budget.
It has garnered the nickname ‘The Death Star’ because of the futuristic outer appearance.
On the inside, facilities are top notch and will hopefully host full capacity crowds in the not-too-distant future.

go on billy boy , the only fighter that beats saul is an out and out boxer , billy is the closest to at the moment in the mid super mid , but lets have it right bill is a big underdog ,if bjs can box for the full 12 he has a big chance of a win but thats a big ask against a fighter who can cut the ring and walk through you with power , but hope it gets made

The bigger the arena the more people will get to see billy joe getting smashed up.
He might be getting paid for the fight but this a case of Cotto / Margarito 2, I am looking forward to seeing a fighter getting a beating handed to him.
