George wasn't tall for his era. Just big for his era. Johnson looked like a giant against welterweights.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Mar 2020, 18:00 He was more like a giant for his era, just like Jack Johnson was known as a giant in his day, even though he was 6 feet tall and weighed in the 180s

I'd say he was tall, I mean how often back in his 'younger' days was he facing taller opponents than himself? 6'3 was getting right up there with the max height you'd see. There are some exceptions of course, like Ernie Terrell back even fartheroogiebe wrote: ↑27 Mar 2020, 18:05George wasn't tall for his era. Just big for his era. so 6' 3 1/2" Done! Next topic!
I dunno. Ali/norton/lyle/foreman/wepner just to name several. Sure there were more that were shorter (some a lot). I'm over it now.
I thought I saw this before! LOL! Cut and paste! "Hey look at me! Look at me!"Enlightened-One wrote: ↑27 Mar 2020, 17:55You do realise that the prime version of "Big" George Foreman, the man who defeated Joe Frazier in their first fight, was almost identical in height and weight to the prime version of David Haye that defeated Nikolay Valuev?![]()
At his physical prime, Foreman was simply a rehydrated cruiserweight by modern standards.
George Foreman’s mathematical average weight was 217lbs from the start of his career through until the end of 1973. He was 217½lbs when he faced Joe Frazier in 1973. He was also only 6’ 3.5” in height.
From the start of his career through until 1973, the average George Foreman opponent was typically 6’ 0” in height, weighing around the 206lbs mark.
You make a good point. I'm not denying that. I just don't really care that much about it. I have a curiousity about Foreman's height. He appeared taller than 6'3" to me. That's all.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Mar 2020, 18:12 Ya, and now Josh/Wlad/Wilder/Fury etc
Guys 6'3 were hardly ever fighting anyone taller, and if they were it was only by a hair usually
Someone said this earlier that Frazier lost 2 of 3 to Ali and twice to Foreman. Maybe that's why? (I know I know...Liston lost twice Ali).
too fast and fluid! But...entertaining!
