No matter what weight from Jr Lightweight ,Lightweight,Super Lightweight,i see the same outcome. The edge in power, height and reach to Arguello.Durability, speed and workrate I think Chavez.Stamina I think equal.
(But after rethinking,I think I'd give the edge to Arguello at Jr Lightweight, where I think he was his best.)
Both great legendary fighters that fought the best, ducking no one. This would be, I think, the type of fight you definitely call a war.
Arguellos penchant for slow starts would put him behind.Remember a young Boom Boom Mancini taking it to Arguello and banging him pretty good.Chavez is in a different class than Mancini.
Arguello could punch with the best inside or out.But his pride wouldn't allow him to use his Physical advantage ,so they slug it out ,infighting at a ferocious pace.
In a 12 round fight ,Chavez would take a decision. In a 15 round fight ,which most people think would favor Arguello,I think the early bodywork of Chavez and slow start from Arguello would put him at a decision loss or maybe late rd t.k.o.
I could be wrong but I've seen them both a lot of times and this is how I see this happening.Maybe not? But man would it be something.

This might have been a classic. Could have gone either way.

I like arguello big at 130, 140 was Chavez best weight. He might get a Dec there.
Re: JC Chavez vs Alexis Arguello
One of the best matchups so far. Arguello at 130 and 135, probably by decision since Chavez had a hell of a chin, Chavez at 140
